What F1 25 Can LEARN From This 30 Year Old MASTERPIECE

Grand Prix 2 was released in 1996 and was already a brilliant F1 game in many aspects. It was so good that even F1 25 and the F1 game series from Codemasters could learn from some of the elements that MicroProse had in the 90's. ‪Aleix‬ takes you on a little trip back in time 29 years.

I think it's about changing the thought process when aproaching the design of not just F1 games/sims but all motorsport games and sims, in fact, maybe all games in general.

It seems to me that an idea or vision is sparked and the financers straight away think of ways to monitise it further than before, the single player is rarely thought of in regards to gameplay, yes they give the bare bones but you can 'in general' see that in many cases it's just a token gesture... likely because the guys that finance these things don't have any interest in playing race sims, or perhaps even playing anything but marketing in the real world.

So yes, their money is welcome, but only because it's become necessary to get anything done these days, the pixels make better pictures now than they did way back when because shiny sells, and there's no real reason to create a deep masterpiece if it's only going to be played by the many for a few weeks, if you look at the likes of great single player games GTL/GTR/GTR2 they only interest a tiny few now because they're old and for many they're past it, you might show a youngster a few laps and or races and they might go "wow"... but that interest won't last long, not as long as it has for us stallwarts, it's just not shiny enough.

So, I'm hoping that Project Motor Racing will actually be the GTR2 of 2025/6, because if it is, then there'll be all sorts of mods featuring all categories of racing including the single seaters, and that will allow for a new standard to be set, perhaps one that even the 'money' won't be able to ignore.

best thing about GP2 was handing your car over to the AI and then your mate taking over on the PC. We used to link two 486's together and have GP2/3 and 4 nights in the 90's. Having a mix of AI and real drivers was also brilliant. The AI was always predictable too. The best F1 sim is Assetto Corsa with VRC, ASR and RSS mods. But the AI is poor and no multiplayer leagues of note with big grids. Assetto and AMS2 has the best F1 experience. But Codemasters will never make it like a sim. They will always make it like an easy to drive arcade game...

All I want is basic force feedback in GP2, and there are rumors that we might finally get it. If that happens, I might never buy an F1 game again. Why should I spend my money if they can't provide what I want?

I used to love driving GP4 with my T300, but ever since I upgraded to separate wheelbase, wheel and pedals, GP4 is no longer possible to drive because it doesn't recognize inputs.
