Top 7 Cars In Assetto Corsa EVO So Far - Video

Assetto Corsa EVO launched into Early Access with 20 cars on board - but which ones are the best so far? Emily takes a look and gives her favorites.

Five tracks and a 20-car roster accompanied the first Early Access release of Assetto Corsa EVO. While many had hoped for more race cars than the five that are present in the initial release, many sim racers were positively surprised by some of the road cars in the sim.

Naturally, some are more fun than others, although this is quite a subjective topic, of course. @Emily Jones has taken a look at all of the vehicles in AC EVO and listed her favorites for us, which you can see in the video above - or in the list below.

7 - Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI Clubsport

To Emily, the Golf did not seem exciting at first, but soon revealed that there is much more to it than that first impression. Its capabilities for going sideways and the somewhat surprising amount of power make it a fun car to drive for her.

Assetto Corsa EVO Ford Escort RS Cosworth.jpg

6 - Ford Escort RS Cosworth

Probably a favorite of many, the Cossie is a fun experience with its 4WD drivetrain, h-pattern gearbox and rally DNA - it was a homologation special for a WRC version of the car after all, which competed from 1993 to 1996, was succeeded by the Ford Escort WRC for 1997 and 1998. This, in turn, was replaced by the Ford Focus RS WRC 99 for the 1999 season, a car that many will remember for havin Colin McRae behind the wheel.

Assetto Corsa EVO Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992).jpg

5 - Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992)

The first race car on Emily's list scores for its sound design, and although it feels a bit too grippy to her, it is still an enjoyable car all things considered. It may feel a bit scary of the bumps at Mount Panorama in particular, but then again - what car doesn't feel scary over the top of The Mountain?

Assetto Corsa EVO BMW M4 CSL.jpg

4 - BMW M4 CSL

A powerful two-door I6 weapon created to celebrate 50 years of BMW M, the M4 CSL is a lively car with quite a decent amount of power. According to Emily, it also suffers from a bit of a stark contrast in looks, with a great-looking rear of the car not exactly being complimented by the big nostrils in the front that BMW introduced a few years ago.

Assetto Corsa EVO Toyota GR86.jpg

3 - Toyota GR86

From big and powerful to small and a bit tamer: The GR86 may not have the grunt of the BMW, but it is nimble and pleasant to slide around a bit. Having driven a racing version of the car in Australia, Emily finds the Toyota to feel very similar, which earns it a thumbs-up seal of approval and the first podium position on her list.

Assetto Corsa EVO Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm.jpg

2 - Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm

Another unexpectedly fun experience, the Giulia GTAm can be forced into a slide quite easily thanks to its powerful engine. This is contrasted by a tendency to understeer when not on the throttle, which makes the car very managable in general - so Emily recommends it to beginners as well.

Assetto Corsa EVO Ferrari 296 GTB.jpg

1 - Ferrari 296 GTB

Emily's top pick is a properly powerful, lively car: the Ferrari 296 GTB. It has great top speed, slides progressively and makes for an enjoyable time behind the virtual wheel, although it may require some practice to not fly off the track with it.

The Audi RS3 for its amazing simulation of electronics including Quattro RS Toque Split fully simulated (deactivate TC and go into a slide and watch the car correct itself on its own) and Launch Control (also available on other cars), and obviously for its interior look and R8-junior sound.

The Lotus Emira for its behavior on track, this car feels like a GT3 with less power, amazing to throw around the track.

The AMG GT2 as it was my favorite car in ACC and they got rid of its only issue : locking the rear axle in hard braking zone, the car feels amazing to drive now.

I'm a big fan of the AMG GT2 too. It's not as wild as the Porsche Cup and going through Bathurst has been a blast with it. Honestly, I enjoy almost all of the cars as of now, no matter if they are FWD or RWD, engine placement, it all feels enjoyable for me!

Yeah the RS3 is fun to throw around slower corners with the TC off, but my favourite is the Camaro.
Easy to miss there's two versions of it though, the base ZL1 and the ZL1 1LE which is lower and has grippier tyres. I find the 1LE is much more fun, both grippier and easier to slide around. Not as slidey as the M4, more slidey than the Giulia.

The GT2 was quite a surprise to me. I think as far as FFB goes, it is my current favorite in AC EVO - it's just very direct and detailed, which I quite like. Was never a fan of the car in ACC, but the "new" one certainly has my attention :D

That Ferrari is a bit of a thing. I'd hope it isn't like that if I bought one (which I never will)
How well do sims simulate the cars electronic aids? Surely this stuff is top secret?

I'm sorry but their is a typo about the M4 CSL - it's not a V6, it's a Straight-six engine
Also it's a bit disapointing since the M4 CSL exist only in AWD with option to put it in RWD but it's not (yet?) implement in ACE. With all the details we have, i'm pretty sure it will come soon enough.

Anyone who has driven the Alfa Guilia will know how well this model handles. Its steering is sharp and overall, it's just a super refined car to drive. I'm glad they capture some of this in the sim.

I'm enjoying every single car, even the EV's and even though I'd never consider buying a Camaro irl, that thing is my favorite so far in both variants.

On a side note, David Perel mentioned that hypercar tires are unrealistically grippy and supercar ones felt more realistic when he was driving the Ferrari, so I always downgrade them for cars that come with hyper as default.

Some Cars give more or less fps then others. Abarth oder Ford Escort with 5 A.i. Cars on Track gives me 75+ fps and if i choose the alpine the fps goes down to half the fps. Sadly i can´t really play it like that on my Midleclass Pc with an Ryzen 7 3700x and a RX 6600 GPU + 16gb Ram. I hope they will fix the performance issues soon. Back to AMS2 for a while now.

From what i can tell the IRL 296 GTB comes with Pilot Sport 4S tyres. The Camaro ZL1 1LE seems to come with with Eagle F1 SuperCar 3 tyres, which compared to the PS4S seem like a much more track focused semi-slick tyre.
Both are "HyperCar" tyres in the game, but based on the above the 296 should have less grippy tyres than the 1LE. So he might be right that the Ferrari has too much grip but it might be not because the hypercar tyres are too grippy, but because the 296 should have the supercar and not the hypercar tyres in game to begin with. Which is basically saying the same thing, but also not. Even if swapping to supercar tyres might be more realistic on the 296, doing the same on another car might give it too little grip compared to irl. Also two tyres labeled the same in game might be completely different anyway.

The regular ZL1 in game has "Road" tyres that feel more like economy tyres than any performance tyre i've tried.. The PS4's on the Giulia are marked "SuperCar" and feel much closer to hypercar than road, and about right based on vague memories of driving IRL cars with similar tier tyres.

Ultimately this is all meaningless speculation but my brain was tickled and felt like looking into it a bit.

Thanks for the info. Interesting that the 296 would come with 4S as OEM tires but I guess it makes sense for public roads, while the ZL1 1LE is a dedicated track focused trim.

In AC I like to fit mods with the correct tire size/compound as their real life counterpart (street90's, street, semislicks, etc...) so now that I think about it, I'm gonna test the different compounds in ACE and compare to real life laptimes.
