Five tracks and a 20-car roster accompanied the first Early Access release of Assetto Corsa EVO. While many had hoped for more race cars than the five that are present in the initial release, many sim racers were positively surprised by some of the road cars in the sim.
Naturally, some are more fun than others, although this is quite a subjective topic, of course. @Emily Jones has taken a look at all of the vehicles in AC EVO and listed her favorites for us, which you can see in the video above - or in the list below.
7 - Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI Clubsport
To Emily, the Golf did not seem exciting at first, but soon revealed that there is much more to it than that first impression. Its capabilities for going sideways and the somewhat surprising amount of power make it a fun car to drive for her.6 - Ford Escort RS Cosworth
Probably a favorite of many, the Cossie is a fun experience with its 4WD drivetrain, h-pattern gearbox and rally DNA - it was a homologation special for a WRC version of the car after all, which competed from 1993 to 1996, was succeeded by the Ford Escort WRC for 1997 and 1998. This, in turn, was replaced by the Ford Focus RS WRC 99 for the 1999 season, a car that many will remember for havin Colin McRae behind the wheel.5 - Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992)
The first race car on Emily's list scores for its sound design, and although it feels a bit too grippy to her, it is still an enjoyable car all things considered. It may feel a bit scary of the bumps at Mount Panorama in particular, but then again - what car doesn't feel scary over the top of The Mountain?4 - BMW M4 CSL
A powerful two-door I6 weapon created to celebrate 50 years of BMW M, the M4 CSL is a lively car with quite a decent amount of power. According to Emily, it also suffers from a bit of a stark contrast in looks, with a great-looking rear of the car not exactly being complimented by the big nostrils in the front that BMW introduced a few years ago.3 - Toyota GR86
From big and powerful to small and a bit tamer: The GR86 may not have the grunt of the BMW, but it is nimble and pleasant to slide around a bit. Having driven a racing version of the car in Australia, Emily finds the Toyota to feel very similar, which earns it a thumbs-up seal of approval and the first podium position on her list.2 - Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm
Another unexpectedly fun experience, the Giulia GTAm can be forced into a slide quite easily thanks to its powerful engine. This is contrasted by a tendency to understeer when not on the throttle, which makes the car very managable in general - so Emily recommends it to beginners as well.1 - Ferrari 296 GTB
Emily's top pick is a properly powerful, lively car: the Ferrari 296 GTB. It has great top speed, slides progressively and makes for an enjoyable time behind the virtual wheel, although it may require some practice to not fly off the track with it.Which of the 20 cars in Assetto Corsa EVO are your favorites thus far?
