Sim racers could finally get their hands on the Assetto Corsa EVO Driving Academy for a limited time - but the patch enabling online functionality should follow soon and enable it everyone.

UPDATE JANUARY 22, 16:30 UTC

As the test has concluded, Kunos have supposedly gathered valuable insight into the incoming update. The goal is to release it "early next week", according to McConnell on the official AC Discord server.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE JANUARY 21

The Assetto Corsa EVO servers have not been very cooperative since the game's first Early Access launch, preventing players from fully diving into the first public version of the game. First, only six cars were available until a patch made the rest accessible offline, then car customizations were made available as well without a connection to the servers. - and now, the Driving Academy could follow soon.

As all these elements are apparently tied to the game's in-game economy which requires an online connection, they have not been available as intended thus far. For January 21, Kunos Simulazioni are conducting a "mass test for the backend", according to Ben McConnell, one of the official AC Discord server's moderators.

Assetto Corsa EVO Driving Academy Test: How To Participate

To participate in this limited-time test, players need to launch the Beta branch of the game. Here's how that works, according to McConnell:

  • Restart your Steam client
  • Go onto Assetto Corsa EVO in your steam game library, and right click on it
  • Select Properties
  • Navigate to the Beta section
  • Insert password: EJzSbn5acGWCOv1SnUV9
  • You will be prompted to branch release-latest-backend

Once you are in, all Kunos ask you to do is to play Assetto Corsa EVO as you would normally. The test is intended to find out how stable the backend is and to find potential "breaking points", hinting at Kunos hoping to make the servers available for all AC EVO players as soon as possible.

You will have to be quick, though, as McConnell pointed out: "At some point this evening we will turn it off again, this is purely for testing purposes with the hopes of bringing it to live ASAP."

Have you seen our brand-new Assetto Corsa EVO download section already? It may be empty at the time of writing this article, but who knows when the first of our many talented community modders figures out how to mod something and decides to upload it...

Will you be trying to join the backend test to try the Assetto Corsa EVO Driving Academy? Let us know in the comments and join the discussion in our AC EVO forum!

Crazy how journalists (and gamers in general) give AC:Evo a free pass just because of the previous titles ..... This demo is crap let's be honest ,and the intended online features is a big no no. Early Access is just another word for pre-order (but you can play alpha so long just to make you feel better)

The patch didn't fix sh&*. It temporarily lifted the online requirement for the licenses. Sorry, this is an important distinction to make. Be professional.
It did not fix the online part, but that's not what's said there - the cars are available now, as they should have been from the start.

But to prevent any misunderstandings, I've reworded it ever so slightly ;)

Yeah, you only forgot about the important word: temporarily. Making an impression they're gonna stay that way.

Also, I think the grammar is wrong:
First, only six cars were available until a patch made them accessible offline,
The patch made those 6 cars available offline as they already were available offline?

I can imagine that Kunos created the online functionality is to prevent piracy and cheating. I am not an expert on this topic, so can someone please explain what other options there are to prevent piracy and cheating without the online functionality?
You can't. Thats not the reason for it. The reason for it is to stop you from modding it properly, and put the cars you want there. Ensuring that only their content and DLC, and "curated" mods work with all the features enabled.

Surely some talented modders will find a way.......

I activated the key, my EVO now says [release latest back end] running.
But my game has not changed, still says offline and I do not have access to anything more.

Did you go to 'setting' - game/HUD and checked the online button?

I don't have time to test it myself, but someone said to go to settings and manually set it online and restart the game.

You can imagine what you like - what is needed is for Kunos to make a statement and confirm if quick races will have all access to full release cars, tracks whilst offline.
