After a busy 2024, RaceRoom has teased a free update to Macau's Guia Circuit. The track has been around in the sim for a few years and is due for a touch-up to start 2025.

RaceRoom features a number of tracks that cannot be found in other sims as first-party content. The Guia circuit in Macau, site of one of the most famous junior Formula contests in the Macau Grand Prix, is one of them - but the circuit has been around in RaceRoom since summer of 2015.

Naturally, this means that the track has aged quite a bit despite receiving tweaks here and there over the years. For 2025, it looks like the Guia Circuit will see some love from the developers, though: As announced by RaceRoom via social media, Macau will be subject to a free update that is set to include "refinements and improvements to one of the most challenging steet tracks in RaceRoom."

RaceRoom Free Macau Update

This is something KW Studios has done in 2024 already, with tracks like Mantorp, the Nüburgring-Nordschleife or the Red Bull Ring having been brought up to their current specs last year as part of RaceRoom's modernization efforts.

Back in November of 2024, our own @Angus Martin argued that Macau is rather underrepresented in modern sim racing, so seeing RaceRoom's version being improved should be good news not just for him. What could change, though? Well, not the layout - that has not been touched since 1993, and even then it was just the relocation of the pit lane.

While no further details have been disclosed yet, sim racers might be in for a updated kerbs and surroundings, and possibly a new, more detailed racing surface. When KW gave Oschersleben a do-over in the summer of 2024, that included a laser-scanned surface - although the track had to be purchased again as it was essentially an all-new version.

More information on what the free Macau update - and more - might entail is expected on Wednesday, when RaceRoom hosts its latest episode of Grid Talk.

I'll be looking at versions of this track at some point on my "A Lap In Time" YouTube playlist in future (current tracks are Nurburgring, Le Mans, Pau, Rockingham UK and Sebring). Not sure if I'll limit it to just PC games or maybe go multi-platform.

But there's a big video coming very soon about another track... keep an eye on https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYDobL0b26uh0Sln2pFKpJKqCMONUsTzj in a few days time ;)

Love this track, but I just can't get around that tight hairpin without a 3-point turn, lol. Unless I'm driving a cart. I wonder if they'll open that up a bit!
