The release of the officially licensed NASCAR game, developed in conjunction with Monster Games and iRacing, is approaching faster than a stock car at top speed. The latest dev diary has showcased the first bit of gameplay!
NASCAR 25 is releasing later this year on PC and consoles. Until now, the only gameplay footage we had was screenshots of garages at the team's headquarters and cars in the paddock area.
But now we have actual footage of a car taking to the track, along with other new angles that show off the whole experience before heading onto the circuit.
In the video, the developers discuss trying to capture everything at the track from the driver's perspective, sparing no expense on authenticity. That will involve being in the pits with your team members, being in the car, and having the pit crew wheel the car to the access road leading to the track; it will all be included.
There is a lot of emphasis on trying to retain the level of sensory overload and anxiety that comes with each stage of the weekend. Game advisor and NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. lets the team know that the qualifying stage was always the most stressful. This informed the developers to put a lot more effort into accurately depicting this.

The developers have been working on creating an accurate sound environment, not just when the player is on track, but also in the garage and when hearing other cars on track. With the engines contained in a bowl-shaped design, it echoes all around, and they wanted to recreate that effect.
A detail spotted in the video was when the car was still in the pits, and the depth of the field was somewhat off. Most likely by design, but it does raise the question of whether there will be a means to customise the depth of the field, which is extra crucial in oval racing since the average speed requires high observation skills and quick reaction times.
For a quick recap on everything we have learned so far about NASCAR 25, here is a video done by our own Emily Jones.
