NASCAR 25 Dev Diary Provides First Gameplay Glimpse

The release of the officially licensed NASCAR game, developed in conjunction with Monster Games and iRacing, is approaching faster than a stock car at top speed. The latest dev diary has showcased the first bit of gameplay!

NASCAR 25 is releasing later this year on PC and consoles. Until now, the only gameplay footage we had was screenshots of garages at the team's headquarters and cars in the paddock area.

But now we have actual footage of a car taking to the track, along with other new angles that show off the whole experience before heading onto the circuit.

In the video, the developers discuss trying to capture everything at the track from the driver's perspective, sparing no expense on authenticity. That will involve being in the pits with your team members, being in the car, and having the pit crew wheel the car to the access road leading to the track; it will all be included.

There is a lot of emphasis on trying to retain the level of sensory overload and anxiety that comes with each stage of the weekend. Game advisor and NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. lets the team know that the qualifying stage was always the most stressful. This informed the developers to put a lot more effort into accurately depicting this.

The developers have been working on creating an accurate sound environment, not just when the player is on track, but also in the garage and when hearing other cars on track. With the engines contained in a bowl-shaped design, it echoes all around, and they wanted to recreate that effect.

A detail spotted in the video was when the car was still in the pits, and the depth of the field was somewhat off. Most likely by design, but it does raise the question of whether there will be a means to customise the depth of the field, which is extra crucial in oval racing since the average speed requires high observation skills and quick reaction times.

For a quick recap on everything we have learned so far about NASCAR 25, here is a video done by our own Emily Jones.

Did they not watch this video back before releasing it? game looked like it was running at 10fps :roflmao: other than that it looks promising. Just hope its got a decent damage model. Colour pallette could do with dialling down a bit looks very over saturated.

I am not sold yet, visuals are kinda meh. But if it feels good and has a good career, I am in :D

I mean, I still play V-Rally 3 from time to time due to the career-mode.

I just fear this will be a NASCAR Heat rehash with some flashy pre-race stuff. Just like the MSG NASCAR thing that highlighted the way you could drive from the garage to the pit-lane just like in real life. (Or as it had been in rF2 etc.).

I am not getting hyped at all, but I hope for a good career mode, and races where cars actually retire and gets involved in stuff - so it feels realistic in that sense as well.

Just recude your screen saturation ? I do not understand people who walk about colors on a screen with proper settings. Or the devs could also add a slider for that.

My gut feeling is that it's going to run/play/look the same as World of Outlaws 24 so if you're cool with that you'll be happy

They should include settings for it within the game like ACC had. I'm not gonna keep adjusting my screen settings just because one game comes looking over saturated to try make it look "pretty".

I also hadn't noticed how bad them logos looked on the cars thats hilarious. What engine is this even running on? Unreal or Unity?

Based on info from last year. Unreal.
That surprises me with the fact that world of outlaws is on unity. I'm guessing because of when development was started that it's unreal 4. Bonus if it's 5 because 5 performs far better. Explains why it looks the way it does too

I wish game developers would stop with the exaggerated depth of field effects - at least if it's a realistic look they're going for. Sometimes the overdone DoF creates a "diorama effect" making objects look like miniatures. IIRC, the track-side replays in AC Evo is an example.

What was said was that the last Outlaw game was the last on Unity.

I was expecting better visuals with UE5, I hope the team is still working on the rendering. I'm glad they work on all these "small" aspects which create the immersion, as they were lacking in the Nascar Heat games. It is going to be a big step ahead for the tracks, the sound, the pit stops...
