Thrustmaster Shipping Strikes And Delays Plague T598 Buyers

Dockyard strikes in France and New Year closures across China have caused extensive delays for expectant customers of Thrustmaster's T598 bundle. No resumption of operations is in sight until the end of February 2025, despite orders being fulfilled.

Thrustmaster launched its new take on direct drive technology with the new T598 in 2024. However, with mixed reviews of its latest splash into the steering wheel market, which uses direct axial drive motors and has been plagued with mechanical issues, the T598 did not have the start in life the American outfit was hoping for.

To make matters worse, their shipping routes and partners are affected by a few dockyard strikes across France and many closures, specifically from their Chinese partners, who have shut down these shipping operations to celebrate Chinese New Year.

"Docker and port worker unions at France's major ports have begun a programme of industrial action which began last month and is set to continue intermittently throughout February in protest to state pension reform." -Reilfreight.com

This case study precisely describes how these delays and shut ports affect Thrustmaster. The distribution chain comes to a screeching halt, regardless of which business sector you are within.

Thrustmaster has publicly apologised for the shipping delays. While it does not appear that any negligence or fault falls at Thrustmaster's door directly, the pre-planning could have been handled better before these strikes fell into place, with some customers complaining through platform X about delays and lack of order updates.

"All orders placed on our eShop have been fulfilled, and Thrustmaster customer service advises those in this situation to contact their authorized reseller while waiting for delivery." - Thrustmaster, talking to OverTake.gg

What is the Thrustmaster T598?

If you are unfamiliar with the newest addition to the Thrustmaster direct drive lineup, watch our video review below to learn why this new, supposed revolutionary technology has not quite hit the sweet spot with sim racers in 2025.

Chinese companies and sim racing brands such as Cammus and MOZA might also be affected. Although the French strikes may not hamper them too much, the Chinese closures might do. If you are expecting a delivery from these companies anytime soon, ensure you track your packages and follow up on any delays!

Poor communication by the dealers, they should know the Holiday period and should make allowences for it, by notifying/warning 'potential' customers of expected delays over that period, doing this would leave the ball in the court of the customer, as for the French dock strikes... hell that's a national pastime so that should be expected too!
And y'all knew Trump was gonna stir the pot and tee folks off, shoulda' seen that coming too!

Honestly I could have sworn that Thrustmaster was a French company, and I actually believe it essentially is.

Doing some digging it would appear that Thrustmaster started life in 1990 in Oregon USA, but was subsequently bought by Guillemot S.A., a French company, in 1999. That same year it was merged with another of Guillemot's acquisitions, Hercules Computer Technologies, and became Hercules Thrustmaster which is headquartered in Carentoir, France.

That said it still appears that Thrusmaster still maintains a headquarters in Hillsboro, Oregon, USA.

So which is it, a French company or an Amrican company, Given that for most of it's life it's been under the ownership of French interests I'm going to say it's a French company for all intents and purposes.

Does Thrustmaster manufacture its products in China? It is time for that practice to stop.
That's something I do tend to agree with, but as with all good intentions it comes with some large unintended consequences, such as the price of entry level gear rocketing to around €800 - €1000 for even a basic DD wheelbase.

Add to that the western world no longer has much in the way of meaningful chip foundries, meaning stuff will still need to be sourced from China, Taiwan, Korea etc.

So you have a wonderful idea in principle, but in practice it's not going to achieve what you want, and will end up pissing off a lot of people.

My understanding is the Guillemot family own Ubisoft and Ubisoft is a wreck at the moment with stock prices crashing. Not a good time to be investing in anything they produce.

This looks like if** Logitech, Moza and Turtle Beach had a three-way and the homunculus that popped out was this.
**Brands except TB that I like.

Jokes aside, is Thurstmaster still considered a good company? I know they were good a decade or two ago but today looking at their lineup, they look like a higher end MadCatz (which is a shame considering Thrustmasters orgins).

Yeah a lot of people just don't understand how the economic structure works anymore...

The industrial age ended in the 1970s in the US... They aren't going to start building things with US workers, Elon and co have AI factories lined up for that work to be done cheaper than China...

All these tariffs are going to kill off the US auto industry... GM will be shutting it's US based factories next month because they'll be going from a 10% profit to a 15% loss to pay these tariffs... And that's still cheaper than using US workers...

Oh and it's definitely French, I wouldn't be willing to gift them money if they weren't French owned...
