The FIA have been no stranger to criticism as of recent for their new hardline policies towards competitors in the championships that they govern swearing in any capacity. Current F1 title holder Max Verstappen was perhaps the most prominent example, after he was punished for swearing during a press conference before last year's Singapore GP.
Drivers in the World Rally Championship have even gone as far as to restrict their interviews with the media out of protest against the governing body's actions against swearing. In spite of the discontent by drivers and fans alike, the FIA show no signs of letting up on this move, and it seems we sim racers will not be exempt from it.
In a joint announcement with the development teams of all major sim racing titles, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem announced today the formation of the Initiative of Motorsport Associations Against Racing Simulation Expletives.
Those involved in the initiative include the likes of Codemasters/EA Sports (F1 games, EA Sports WRC), iRacing, Polyphony Digital (Gran Turismo series), Kunos Simulazioni (Assetto Corsa series), Studio 397/Motorsport Games (Le Mans Ultimate, rFactor 2) and many more. By expanding their connections with the FIA, the hope is that each team involved in Sulayem's program will receive extra collaborative input to help further develop their respective titles.
During the press conference announcing the initiative, Sulayem stated: "For the betterment of all racing drivers both real life pro and hobby gamer, the Initiative of Motorsport Associations Against Racing Simulation Expletives serves to crack down on the plight against decency everywhere that is swearing. Every competitor who is found to be potentially in breach of the values of this initiative will be perma-banned with no refunds!"
There was no real defined time when these practices will start being put into effect, but it might be time to practice not shouting into the voice chat whether it be in-game or even in the voice channel on Discord potentially.
Anyway, happy April Fools! Hope you liked our joke.
