NEW! Get Hardware / Review it / KEEP IT! Community Update For April 2025

April Community Letter
And yet another month flies by with way too much sim racing news to even keep up with. Big new titles are on the horizon or have been released. An OG studio gets back an OG developer, and hardware - well, there's enough to get completely confused and not know what to buy! But thankfully, we are here, and the OverTake team and community have got your back. Let's dive right into what's happening in the community this month!

NEW! Introducing Community Reviews

And starting with the biggest news we have to share this month... Community Reviews!

We say the word "community" a lot around here, but our end goal is to give it more meaning - what's the point of a word if it doesn't mean anything?! That is why we are super proud to be launching a brand new "Community Review Program".

It is a fairly simple concept: we send you the hardware, you try it out, write an article about it, and then keep it! Sounds like a pretty good deal, right? Stay tuned for all the details in the next few days.

AC EVO modding section

Welcome to the site, the new Assetto Corsa Evo Mod Upload Section. With AC Evo coming out with Modding tools in the not-so-far-off future, we are planning ahead and laying the groundwork for the best AC modding scene to also become the AC EVO modding scene. We plan to fully support and promote your efforts here at the site.

OverTake Community Giveaway

Last month, you shared your stories for a chance to win a Simlab pedal set, and that was epic fun! This month, we wanted to mix things up a bit, keep it interesting, and add some new prizes from SimLab.

Two ways to win: talk and/or drive. More details to come. Spoiler alert: there will hopefully be some Scandinavian flicks! ;)

OverTake Community Skin/Livery Contest

Starting in May, we will revive the skin and screenshot contests we have done in the past, this time with, you guessed it, some spontaneous prizes. There is some serious talent in our community, so let's see your best creations!

Head on over to the forum and the Overtake Discord and check out the "share-your-liveries" channel. More details on prizes and entry details to come in the next few days.

OverTake Turbo

An exciting perk was introduced to all Premium members early this month. OverTake Turbo is an AI coaching solution, telemetry interface and HYMO setup hub. Not only does it help you with tips and telemetry outputs, but it also sends you a professional-grade setup for most of the current sims.

If you haven't given it a try, by all means, give it a spin! It is free to all premium members, so why not get an edge in your races? Oh, and there are leaderboards for most combinations, so test yourself against other overtake members!

The OverTake Racing Clubs

Every month, we continue to build on the success that the Race Event Selector has ushered in. Ease of use as well as a brand new sim taking hold, Le Mans Ultimate - the stars are starting to align and the clubs are heating up, as many of you have discovered or rediscovered the joy of racing with real people that for the most part are respectful and just like you love fair racing.

Our very own @Jimmi Allison sums it up nicely:
Since our new Race club event plugin has been installed we've seen an increase of numbers of drivers showing up.
This is a first good step for growing our Racing Club to the level it once had. RaceDepartment had good numbers years ago and had racing from simple show up races to serious esport events. We want to achieve this again.

In the next few months we will be implementing more features into the plugin and grow our numbers of events, events that also will have broadcasts on Twitch (as you have seen lately with LMU) and more series of racing.
Since we started we have had 1674 drivers signed up. AC and rF2 is our big attractors with LMU being the new popular kid in town.

Some very encouraging numbers from the last few weeks!

Assetto Corsa: 334
rFactor 2: 127
Le Mans Ultimate: 216

So if you haven't already, get in there are try out the Racing Clubs. There are races on a variety of sims almost every night of the week.

And that concludes the Community Letter for this month. We wish you all happy racing, modding, DIYing, or just chatting and hanging out, until next month. 🙌

  • DD/MM/YYYY or DD-MM-YYYY: This format is widely used in Europe, Asia, and many other parts of the world. ...
  • OH LIKE AUSTRALIA ...one of the five continents

  • MM/DD/YYYY or MM-DD-YYYY or MM DD YYYY: Predominantly used in the United States, Canada, and the Philippines.
Go to order and think wheel not available to Christmas ....oh wait. ( facepalm )
Just basic bad business practice !

Yes that's correct it's part of helping fund the site. Another option is to go Premium and show support that way, and you won't then see any ads. Just one euro a month and bunch of nice perks. :)
fair enough, I can afford it. Although if you can't it is actually very annoying and user unfriendly tbh, if you click skip or x the download doesn't even start. I suppose that's intended but maybe it's worth evaluating after a week or so if you really want to keep doing it like this or find a less agressive alternative :)

I do want to express my thanks for being my number 1 goto mod platform for so long but I'm seriously concerned if this is the right way forward. Just my 2 cents

Hey there, thanks for your feedback :)
The behaviour regarding the start of the download is not final yet and something that came up now during the live procedure. So we hope that there are ways to streamline that.

Many websites use a similar variant and most traffic there (and here) are just people clicking a link somewhere (for example in a description on someones youtube video) and then land on the download directly, get what they want, and off they go. So they are not part of the wider community (not like you, posting in comment sections , visiting the news page etc.). Still they make most of the costs (due to traffic and server load), so this is one of the very few options to actually try to cover this.

By now this platforms hosts so much and we want to keep doing that, and we want to be able to keep doing that for free (as you already mentioned, for those that can´t help us out with going premium). Clicking away a little video is (in my opinion) a very light ask to make this happen :)

It might generate you money but when I'm reading I'm reading and if I can't get rid of a video by scrolling down or 'x' out of it then I reject that page, I don't like giffs (yes I used one once), it messes with my sight and I can't read while something is flickering away out the corner of my eye, there are two users here that I often can't read to the end of their posts simply because of this, even though much of what they may be saying is of interest the giffs turn me away.
My missus asked me the other day about windowing, I had no clue what she was talking about, I only have one screen and that is filled to the brim of the single thing that I'm doing, I'm a fullscreen-o-phile

I'm incredibly interested in the community reviews idea. As an aspiring writer ready to graduate uni, as well as a dedicated and passionate member of the sim racing community, I feel like I would be in an especially advantageous position to be a reviewer. I'm from one of the poorest areas of the United States, and opportunities like this are few and far between. I genuinely hope this is something accessible for people like me, and not just those with 100,000,000 followers or subscribers.

I'm looking forward to Overtake sharing more details about this!

Hey there,

Your own followers etc. don´t play any role.
The review you would be writing or filming would be for this platform, so that other members can read it :)

Some people might have an own following, thats nice, but there is no such requirement from our side.

In the end we want to create a big library of our reviews + community reviews, allowing anyone here to look something up really quick (like spotted something on ebay and wondered if it could be for you? Quickly check on OverTake and decide if you want to grab it). I think that would be great to have and with a few additions that we are still planning, it should get easier for everyone to build their own rig/setup and make sure to get the right items.
