Most Played Racing Games On Steam In March 2025: New All-time Peak For F1 24

The first quarter of 2025 is already over, which means another month of player numbers to look at - here are the most played racing games on Steam in March 2025.

Note: This is not a definitive list of the games' players. Most are available outside of Steam on platforms such as EA Play, Epic Games, and others, and many are also available on consoles, for which the data is not readily available. As a result, this list is based exclusively on the numbers relevant to Steam.

Can you tell that the real motorsport season has kicked into high gear in March? Looking at the list of the most played racing games on Steam last month certainly gives it away - while the order at the very front has not changed, two titles stand out with significant gains.

The first is F1 24, which saw a surge in player numbers in March as the 2025 Formula One World Championship kicked off at Melbourne. The increase of roughly 34% is about in line with that of F1 23's in March of 2024, which saw its numbers jump by about 30% once the start of the real-life season rolled around.

It is worth noting that F1 24's average concurrent player number is slightly higher than that of its predecessor this time last year, but its peak of concurrent players is much higher in 2025 - in fact, F1 24 set a new all-time record in this regard at 13,327. Interestingly, this peak did not come after the Melbourne season opener, but rather a week later after the Chinese Grand Prix in March 23. The game had seen an all-time low price during the Steam Spring Sale in March, too.

The biggest gain, however, was made by F1 Manager 2024, which was also greatly reduced in price during the Spring Sale. What also might have helped was the big update Frontier Developments released in late February, adding a season customization feature that would allow players to create their own 2025 season in the game - something that the OverTake community took even further with an excellent 2025 mod.

F1 Manager 2024 saw a 91.42% increase in average players, gaining a lot more than F1 Manager 2023 at the same time last year - and that did not do bad, either, its average jumping up by 53.41%.

Most Played Racing Games on Steam in March 2025 (cap at 250 avg. players). Source: steamcharts.com

Meanwhile, Le Mans Ultimate continued its upward trend, posting more than 1,000 average players for the first time since its Early Access release in February 2024. EA Sports WRC, meanwhile, lost some ground despite the Hard Chargers DLC being released in March, and Automobilista 2 stayed put relative to its February numbers - which have gone down significantly following those of the immediate post-release phase of the big v1.6 update, although they are still higher than they had been before that.

What do people even do in DR2.0 that doesn't exist in EA WRC?
Is it because of WRX, physics, anticheat, or optimisation?

Doesn't even launch for me since they installed their anti-cheat software. Though I understand that sacrifices must be made so they can ensure no one in their single player game is cheating.

I would switch to WRC but with AMD GPUs many, including myself, get a 50% FPS drop towards the end of the stage. Lots of videos and reports on their forums, but no fix as far as I know, I keep checking time to time.

I do have WRC6-10*
But I refunded the '23 WRC title as to me DR2.0 with my sim- and PC-hardware and VR hardware/software is several levels up both sim core immersion and VR wise.

I'm solely simrallying classic heritage as the Alpine A110 1600S, DS21 and Lancia Fulvia HF and the total experience DR2.0 VR racing in my rig is high pleasure to me every time.

Besides time is not with me switching between more sims. But the '23 WRC was really underwhelming to me, speaking my personal preferences vs. my hw setup.

* should state that my journey with VR started mid April 2022, and when at first VR tryout in DR2.0 with my 2 x T8HA setup and further rig tunings and my Quest 2 there was really no return to WRC for me.

Recently i rediscovered Richard Burns Rally again for me. And i am hooked in.
A shame it´s not steam included, would love to see this 21 years old game in comparsition to all those "modern" titles.
The bad side of this - i can´t go back any of the other rally games.

RallySimFans' continuous updates, which are still actively ongoing, have made RBR a highly competitive rally sim and is something completely different from the vanilla version, and now even with impressing VR possibilities for such an old sim.

Exactly that´s the version i have installed.
We don´t need to speak about the physics/ffb - it´s just superior to anything. Reminds me personaly a bit on AMS1, where i had this "beeing in the car, connected to the road" feeling. No question LMU is great nowdays in these department, but kind of different.

Whats truly impressive - i have followed some videos and forums and marked about 30 tracks as favorites. Some of them are truly awsome. Not a big difference to modern visuals, if not even more realistic in some circumstances.
The only thing disturbing a bit which shows how old the game really is, beside the spectators, are the most of the cars. But i already also discovered some decent models.
And thats really not a problem. Most of the time i have a bonnet cam and have to be sooo focused, i even don´t realize the worse textures.

It´s a little bit tricky to find everything out and maybe how get everything running like you will, but its worth it. Every GB of the 100GB installation :D

I am still somewhat surprised that on Thursdays, the rFactor 2 club here at OverTake have 3-4% of all rF2 players in the race (by looking at the number of people in the game at that time).

Very nice to see LMU doing so well for such a highly specialized title. It bodes well for other project presenting total packages of specific race series with accurate content, tracks, cars, skins, rules, drivers.
Their is an appetite for turn key project, nice alternative to sandbox highly modded titles where we can do the exact same but requires time, efforts and dedication to achieve the same result.
I believe, racing titles offering a little bit of this and a little bit of that, will loose traction if we are offered more historic and modern accurate full series titles.

My opinion about rF2 - it´s still a great simulation, but packaged as a s*** game
Yes and that's fine if the person doesn't care about it being a good and consistent game/package. Different people, different tastes, different priorities. But then complaining about it every comment section that it's OUR fault the game failed and how the dev team ended up, not so fine.

FH5 now has 45 million "players". 45 million scores posted on the leaderboards to compete against. That is a huge number by any account. It will be interesting to see how much growth it sees 30 days after the PlayStation release.
