Assetto Corsa EVO: Info On Next Release Soon, More Frequent Updates To Follow

Things have gotten quiet around Assetto Corsa EVO since its most recent update. The next one is supposedly packing quite a punch, and it might open the floodgates again, according to Kunos Simulazoni.

When Assetto Corsa EVO became available in Early Access on January 16, it was one of the most anticipated launches in recent sim racing history. Since then, developer Kunos Simulazioni deployed multiple smaller patches, as well as its first content drop as part of update 0.1.6 on February 19. Since then, there has not been much, if anything, regarding the progress of the sim.

The biggest news concerned not the sim itself, but rather Kunos' personnel when it emerged on March 7 that co-founder Stefano Casillo rejoined the studio full-time as Chief Technology Officer. Previuosly, he had been away from the company since 2020, focusing on his own hydrofoil sailing simulator project.

Interestingly, it was Casillo who now gave a small update regarding AC EVO's progress on Kunos' Discord server. "Sorry the update is taking so long. We are doing a LOT of changes in response to the feedback you have been offering since EA launch", Casillo wrote. "But the new release is looking really packed with changes, improvements, optimization and content. Just a little bit of patience..."

Official Communications Expected Next Week

Casillo continued with stating that Kunos will have "an official communication coming next week (hopefully)." Once the next version of AC EVO is live, Casillo hopes that further upcoming updates will be rolled out more frequently, as he stated in another message: "Once this update is out we'll hopefully be able to release stuff more often."

As per the roadmap released alongside the first Early Access version of Assetto Corsa EVO, the sim is due to have five new cars, the Circuit of the Americas, Custom Race Weekend mode, new special events, as well as replay tools and a gallery added. Additionally, VR and triple screen support will see the second step of their implementation.

With the concerns players have been raising since AC EVO's launch, it is reasonable ot assume that performance optimization is high on Kunos' list. VR enthusiasts will look forward to the next step of its support, as it currently is in a promising, but ultimately not very performant place, as our own @Christopher E also found during his in-depth test.

I was very hopeful and excited when I heard that they were going to get rid of the unreal engine, but...
Their "brand new" in-house engine looks and performs very much like unreal engine at this point.
So, what am i supposed to buy to run this properly? A RTX 5080 or something?
I'm going to uninstall the game for now, and wait many months for development. Fingers crossed...
I'm running EVO with a 4070Ti Super and its more than enough to handle multiple AI cars and rain. Although my focus is more on car handling/control and less about competing against AI.

Almost a week has past… will there be any news tomorrow? I really hope they made a big step in VR performance and AI, since these are the major reasons why I am not playing this game anymore atm.

They posted on the discord last week that the update was being rolled into the next big roadmap milestone and that there was going to be more in the next few days which hasnt happened. Also since they posted that in the announcements channel on the discord, the announcements channel has been removed, couldnt make it up. :roflmao: 🥴

They just posted on Facebook there will be an update tomorrow. Highlight are offline open mode, modding tools and performance boost.

If the performance boost is good enough then I might keep it installed. Because I don't think anyone will deny even for non vr users the performance boost needs to be significant

Non VR performance is quite acceptable on my system, with FPS above 100 with must settings on high/ultra on an RTX 4080, Ryzen 7 7800X3D and 3440x1440 resolution. VR on a Quest 3 however is unplayable, except on very low settings, which looks awful.

I have almost identical setup ( RTX4080S ) right down to FPS locked at 100 in game. ( smooth - rock solid)

It's pretty spectacular night / rain , nothing like it in pancake mode imho.
If this had engine closer to ISI would be near perfect sim for me.

Gee, a lot of commenters here look like insufferable spoiled children. The Kunos team deserves some kind of work hazard compensation for reading these comments.

Dude, even with a 4090 and settings on low the VR performance is pathetic compared to AC, AMS2, ACC(!), LMU etc. ... that's not pessimism but sad reality. "... was perfectly playable in VR" is just a lie, sorry.
dang, i guess i was hallucinating when i played the game on a 4070ti. silly me, i shouldnt have eaten those funny mushrooms

Your 4070ti must be a very powerful gfx card! Maybe I should downgrade...?
This all reminds me of MadTV 😆

No sims run the AI on full physics.
rfactor 2 and lmu definitely do. thats why rf2 has such a cpu hit with full fields compared to other sims. pretty sure ac and acc also have the ai running full physics but without the simulated learning that rf2 and lmu use. jesus christ, i used to hate people who called others fanboys for liking something, especially ams2, but this is just getting ridiculous. you can just enjoy what you like, you dont have to pretend that every other sim uses simplified physics for ai when they dont.

Yes ISIMotor runs on full physics, also has 2 level AI and 2 levels of dynamics yours and them.
The rest ( studios) are AI clones !
When will the rest of you wake up and smell the roses !

That is not saying ISI is perfect ...FAR from IT !
But without support how you think anyone can fix anything ?

At least acknowledge the truth of the matter and ask your other studios ...why they have robots for AI.

Again iRacing new feature is not Realtime Dynamics it is preset adaptive AI which is nothing alike.

You think it means it takes a hit ?
BS I get the same solid minium FPS I can get from them all if anything it's better
( rF2 - 144 LMU -120 set in Json )
IF YOU TELLING ME HIGH 3440 SOLID 120FPS FULL LEMANS NIGHT RAIN IS SLOW....

Okay whatever 🤪

This should be pointless press release of the week on Midweek Motorsport

Running the AI at "full physics" is idiotic and a limitation of the physics solving. You wanna run it at partial rate if possible. It's not some kind of flex if your sim has to do it at full speed.
