After a week off from the surprisingly entertaining Miami Grand Prix sprint weekend, we go to the first round of the European season, a circuit drenched in rich and sadly tragic Formula One history for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Imola.

A sprint victory for Lando Norris and another Grand Prix win for Oscar Piastri were the headlines from the race weekend in Miami, although the young Kimi Antonelli managed to steal the show in Sprint Qualifying with his maiden pole position.

But in addition to the McLarens making waves, there was also that incredible Sprint pole for Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli, an astonishing Grand Prix pole lap from Max Verstappen, and heaps of drama on race day.

Colapinto in, Doohan out

The threat of the Argentinian Franco Colapinto has been hanging over Jack Doohan since his first time stepping into his 2025 Alpine Formula One car. The threat has been there, and unfortunately for the Aussie, Alpine has pulled the trigger.

It is a significant loss for his fans, but Alpine is not necessarily putting all of its proverbial eggs in the Colapinto basket moving forward. Doohan will continue with the team as a test and reserve driver, and the swap is being evaluated after the next five race weekends.

"Having reviewed the opening races of the season, we have come to the decision to put Franco in the car alongside Pierre for the next five races. With the field being so closely matched this year, and with a competitive car, which the team has drastically improved in the past 12 months, we are in a position where we see the need to rotate our line-up.

We also know the 2026 season will be an important one for the team and having a complete and fair assessment of the drivers this season is the right thing to do in order to maximise our ambitions next year.

We continue to support Jack at the team, as he has acted in a very professional manner in his role as a race driver so far this season. The next five races will give us an opportunity to try something different and after this time period we will assess our options.” - Flavio Briatore, Alpine F1 Executive Advisor

In light of Doohan's exit from the grid for the time being, several drivers voiced support for the 22-year-old during media day at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, including his countryman Oscar Piastri.

“It’s a tough situation all round, I think, It was a short time in F1 for Jack. Franco’s coming in with these five races, which is also not easy circumstances to come back into F1." - Oscar Piastri, McLaren

Charles Leclerc missing for Ferrari

As Thursday's media day approached, Charles Leclerc mysteriously disappeared from the 20 drivers as they entered the paddock. The Monagasque was then announced to be missing media duties due to illness. Ferrari released a statement that he is expected to still drive the car in first practice, but in order to recover enough, he was left alone to recover on Thursday.

Ferrari has had a pretty rough start to 2025, especially with the expectations riding on Leclerc and teammate Lewis Hamilton's shoulders. With one of their stars out unwell, that could spell disaster for the prancing horse at their home race. Their secret weapon? Their Italian reserve driver, Antonio Giovonazzi.

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is not only the opening weekend for the European Formula One season but also Ferrari's first of two home races. With Ferrari's golden boy potentially out ill, it is not the start to the calendar's most prestigious series of races that the Italian Marque would have hoped for.

Lando Norris downplays McLaren's dominance

Lando Norris believes that he and McLaren could be in for a "tough weekend" at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. The Briton insists that the squad's commanding performance last time out in Miami was a "nice surprise."

After a strong start to the campaign for the reigning Teams' Champions, the papaya outfit put in one of their strongest displays yet at the Miami International Autodrome as Oscar Piastri led home Norris in a 1-2 result.

Piastri showcased the impressive performance of the MCL39 by finishing a remarkable 37 seconds ahead of Mercedes' George Russell, who took third place. This victory not only solidified Piastri's lead in the Drivers' Championship but also extended McLaren's advantage over Mercedes to a substantial 105 points in the Teams' standings.

Despite this strong position, Norris expects that the team will have a smaller edge over their competitors for Round 7 at Imola, a track where he has previously achieved three podium finishes.

Piastri and Norris secured a dominant 1-2 finish for McLaren at the Miami Grand Prix. During Thursday's media day, Norris humorously expressed his hope for a repeat of their Miami performance, stating, "I hope so! That would be lovely and make my life easier."

"No, I think Miami just went very, very well. I think our pace was probably a little bit of a surprise, just how strong we were on Sunday, but a pleasant surprise." - Lando Norris, McLaren

Oscar's mistake was braking a few meters early, it caught George out and it made Max's day, and what an overtake it was...
DoD=Max, no I don't think it was Lewis...

oops forgot to post my post:rolleyes:

aston martin : i dont know what should i will call him , yesterday the upgrade works perfect and today the upgrade jump into downgrade stroll nothing interesting , alosno was near to get points but his tractor car is the reason why he was slow so much and in my opinion worst than haas , alpine and Mercedes, the funny is and will still is Alonso said this strange radio i never heared like this by Alonso in my life , yeah its going to be torture its a wreck i m the unluckiest driver in the f world
see you in monaco grand prix and if you have any notes you can quote this review
Williams better get as many points as possible right now because the team has stopped developping the current car and is working full time on 2026. It’s nice to see Williams so good.

As per Alonso, he’s probably realizing that he will never win another race. Aston has a lot of work to do before becoming competitive and he will turn 44 in July. No one cheats Father Time. I think it’s time for him to retire. What does he have to gain?

If Oscar lost WC by 2 points he will remember today :x3:
Like I said at start of last year Max loves they decrease his deficit by extra 3 points lol :O_o:
Keep that up he says lol
Commentators including JV seem to have missed that point.

Yes but as a team they could have got a better result.
McLaren leading Drivers by extra 3 points should have been priority for everyone at this stage.

Oscar thinks high percentage moves between team mates leading WC is not the way to go.
He gave Max a compliment for his pass, same for Lando ? ;)

This was certainly NOT a divebomb. Max did get a bit lucky with the SC, but at Imola, it's almost impossible to pass and Piastri, at the restart, simply didn't have the tires to challenge Verstappen.

Monaco next week will be interesting because if there is one track where the driver makes a difference, it's that one. If Verstappen is on pole, watch out.
but still... in Monaco where engine power doesn't matter you will need a car like the Mc Laren so I don't see Max winning there
