After a long period of radio silence, the team at Kunos Simulazioni has offered sim racers a heartfelt apology for how the Assetto Corsa EVO Early Access has been handled so far. The video did contain more, such as a new roster of cars and circuits!

It is not news to anyone that the release of Assetto Corsa EVO could have gone better. But the developers at Kunos Simulazioni are passionate and have clearly been hard at work, implementing a multitude of changes and promises for the future. And they indirectly confirmed a number of new cars and tracks, too.

Assetto Corsa EVO New Cars

The latest AC EVO video by Kunos shows a wide range of new vehicles. It is unknown how many will be included in the next update, but any combination of them should be very exciting!

From the Maserati MC20 GT2 known from ACC to the illustrious Ferrari F2004, Michael Schumacher dominated the 2004 season to take his seventh and final F1 World Championship, it seems that there is a vehicle for everyone's taste. The combination of historic Alfa Romeos and modern cars showcases the diverse range of vehicles Kunos aims for in Assetto Corsa EVO.

  • Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT
  • Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo Evoluzione
  • Caterham Academy
  • Ferrari F2004
  • Honda NSX-R
  • Lotus Exige V6 Cup
  • Maserati MC20 GT2
  • McMurtry Spéirling
  • Porsche 911 Turbo 3.6 (964)

New Circuits

The latest Assetto Corsa EVO video also revealed three new circuits: COTA (as was known from the roadmap), Donington Park, and the Red Bull Ring. All three circuits will have alternative layouts.

New circuits, Donington, COTA and Red Bull Ring have multiple layouts.

But new circuits and cars are not the only changes coming to Assetto Corsa EVO; the new custom grid selector and a nice-looking UI refresher will also be coming soon. These significant changes are a statement of intent from developer Kunos.

The video was informative but uninformative at the same time. With all the info coming from sneak peak video or screenshots. They still haven't indicated a time frame for the new road map or the next update which is concerning. I want to believe them but don't want to get suckered into something that's not gonna live up to the hype again.

Man we wanted a rally stage, a moutain pass or even a parking to drift on ,anything else than another track really.. I'm tired of going in circles

Think our reality is that Rally will have to come via modding, when Overtake asked this question in a previous interview with Marco at the game-show, he didn't seem that enthusiastic that Rally was realistically an option or thought. I say this, as Michel read my question on that very topic. A huge shame for a modern game engine, but not everyone likes rally driving sadly, and I understand that.

EDIT: I do think it's a seriously missed opportunity for Kunos' own dlc though, because games like DiRT Rally and RBR are still popular. I'd also bet that rally cars in EVO would be driven more than EV's!

At a later stage could be anytime from now until 2030. Im not overly bothered like ive said as ive got plenty more to keep me busy but it would be nice to have some specifics rather than vagueness.

My hope is, through all the planned changes and cars dropping sooner etc., etc., is that we don't end up with a title like Gran Turismo. What I mean specifically, is 90% of EVO being all from AC1 & ACC. That, IMHO would be totally unacceptable to me personally.

It's still very early. Let's hope with the time since the last EA patch, this work will land in April.

Well just don't die before then...

I think we can read into why specifics aren't available now. Managing expectations. You can't promise something based on all the re-work they're doing with the engine. It's new and unknown territory and unplanned. There's no deeper meaning you are missing. There's no agenda, I'm sure once they know for sure, we'll be told. If they don't do it that way, ppl will be up in arms if they are told something now and they fail to complete all the work. But of course you know this already.

Bit limp wrist to say sorry, forgive us ? lol
You ask me they have nothing to apologize for imho.
these people they are apologizing to are the minority who spend more time in the comments sections complaining than actually driving in any sim. i agree, they shouldnt even bother. the articles shouldnt keep referring to the start of early access as a "release" either though. i swear no one actually understands what words mean anymore, its all just colloquialisms. they dont seem to be capable of understanding that the early part means you are paying a discounted price to try it out before its released.

I like the fact that they have noticed that we are not satisfied and that they will work harder to deliver something close to our expectations. That is good to hear, much better than sitting on your product and believing that there is nothing that can be done. Obviously, the more substantial changes will take time, so there is no timetable.

I tend to treat driving sims like Pokemon, gotta catch 'em all, so I bought it, but at this stage I doubt I'll ever get round to installing it as the direction that it's taking and the type of sim that it's becoming is not really what I want to play these days.

Sure I enjoyed the Project Cars series, Gran Turismo, and the original Assetto Corsa back in the day, but I've moved on from this driving game model where you get a little bit of everything, but not enough of anything to make it substantial. For example the inclusion of the the Ferrari SF2004 is welcome, but without the other F1 cars from that season all you're left with is hotlapping, and that's a problem that I've found with all of the "kitchen sink" sims.

As a result these days I gravitate towards sims which are more focused, such as ACC, LMU, even the F1 games, as I feel they offer me a more believable and immersive experience.

I'm not criticising Kunos, nor am I criticising AC2 as it's obvious that the majority of the community want this type of gameplay model and are clamoring for current gen game of this type. However it's simply not for me at this time.

So most important things to me here is the humility and the acknowledgement that they may have misread the room. In the world at the moment, with so many powerful people unable or unwilling to do this, that makes a big impact.

For me, I need to see a bit more of how I can use the game to create a varied grid of racing cars with better AI before it'll be something I consider paying money for (I'm not interested in road cars and free roams) but some promising stuff here nonetheless.
