Reiza Studios is back with more content for Automobilista 2: After teasing them recently already, the Super Trophy Trucks are ready to make their way into the sim via the Adrenaline Pack Pt. 2.

UPDATE MARCH 14, 2025: Slight adjustment to reflect that the trucks do indeed have a handbrake to help you turn.

Automobilista 2
is looking to reach new heights in early 2025 – not because of another extensive update, but quite literally instead. Super Trophy Trucks, better known as Stadium Super Trucks after their official series, debut in AMS2 with the release of the Adrenaline Pack Pt. 2 DLC set to happen "in time for the weekend", as announced in Reiza Founder and Lead Developer Renato Simioni's latest dev update.

If you have ever wondered what it might feel like to take flight and narrowly miss an advertising bridge on the main straight of Long Beach, Reiza Studios’ simulation finally provides the answer – and it is fun!

Looking at the specs of the trucks, this had to be almost expected: The Chevy-branded trucks sport a 6.8-liter V8 engine producing 634 bhp to propel their 1,400kg forward – and upward. 20 liveries are at the players’ disposal, so there should be plenty of action when competing with a full grid.

Ramps, Ramps Everywhere

That alone does not almost make you take off to the moon, however. We need ramps for that – and ramps we get! Reiza as added 10 Trophy Truck layouts to existing tracks in AMS2, including Long Beach and Adelaide – both of which were on the 2024 Stadium Super Trucks calendar.

These new layouts have little yellow markers labelled ‘R’ on them when you look at them in the menu, showing you where the ramps are located. And if you do run a Trophy Truck layout, you have to use the ramps, otherwise you will get yourself a track cut penalty.

The ramps make for quite some hangtime, but it is important to land at the right angle – if you truck tilts too far forward while soaring through the air, you might land on your front bumper, losing speed and damaging your vehicle. If pulled off correctly, though, it is immense fun to jump around in a relatively big vehicle like this!

What's that in the sky? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's some sim racer taking flight! Image: Reiza Studios

One word of advice for direct drive users, however: Make sure to keep your thumbs out of your wheels when you land! Otherwise, the jolts when touching down on the racing surface might lead to unwanted surprises in the “ouch!” department.

Automobilista 2 Adrenaline Pack Pt. 2 Track List

  • Cleveland STT
  • Guaporé STT
  • Hockenheim Short A STT
  • Ibarra STT
  • Long Beach STT

But it’s not just the ramps where the Trophy Trucks require a special driving style. On the ground, these things are probably the worst offenders for understeer in AMS2, and not because of a not-so-great stock setup. It all comes down to their suspension: When cornering, they will duck the outside rear corner quite a lot, lifting the inside front wheel off the ground. If you are too early on the throttle, this only gets much worse, so ideally, you want to slide out the rear and drift around corners.

That’s easier said than done as the trucks do not have a handbrake using the handbrake to turn around these big vehicles takes a bit of practice, but after a bunch of laps, it is perfectly possible. We recommend trying it on dirt, either at Ascurra or Tykki, as it is a bit easier to go sideways there and learn the manoeuvre. Plus, the trucks are really enjoyable on these tracks as well!

And yes, it is indeed possible to send any other car the sim has to offer flying over the ramps as well if you are looking for some light-hearted fun. Or want to figure out which Group C cars can fly the furthest - your choice.

The AI, meanwhile, tends to be a bit chaotic when it comes to handling their V8-powered toys reasonably, but only on occasion. In the preview version we tried, they struggled on rolling starts in particular, sometimes rolling their trucks at the first ramp before the green flag had even flown.

Once this phase of the race had passed, though, things settled down quite well, although the ramps would still cause mayhem from time to time. But that seems about right, judging from real Stadium Super Truck races – apart from that, close door-to-door (well, panel-to-panel in this case) racing was rather enjoyable.

Now, this may not be a category that will be super popular online for a long time, but from what we can tell, it should be extremely fun to grab a few friends and see who can master the combination of a large V8, a truck that tilts about 45 degrees to the side when cornering, and outrageous ramps the best.

The Adrenaline Pack Pt. 2 will cost $7.99 on Steam. It is also part of the original Season Pass, so players who purchased that will get to enjoy the high-flying action at no extra cost.

AMS2 Update 1.6.4: Other Improvements

While the new content will be the most obvious addition to AMS2, of course, there are also things happening in the background. While already a relatively hardware-friendly title, Automobilista 2 looks to perform even better following the update.

Additionally, two changes in particular should be interesting to fans of the sim. On one hand, the maximum grid size in Championship mode will be increased to 48, and the AI Wet Skill Scalar and Mistake Multiplier settings will be added to the mod, too.

On the other hand, AI opponents will be subjected to a calibration pass regarding their performance on cold tires, which should see them behave more in line with what you would expect. Plus in their forum announcement thread, Reiza make mention of the next content update where some new contenders joining the GTP, GT3 and GT4 classes.

What do you make of the latest Automobilista 2 dev update? Are you looking forward to running the Trophy Trucks? Let us know in the comments below and join the discussion in our AMS2 forum!

Really not bothered by these. The last paragraph in the reiza post points towards ferrari gt3 coming in the next endurance update so they've clearly got that licence sorted
I'm pretty sure it's Aston Martin. I replied on the AMS2 forum that a new GTP car surely meant the Acura, but I got a tongue-in-cheek reply from Renato Simioni basically suggesting that it was another car. The only other IMSA GTP car not in the sim at this time is the new Aston Martin (and there are Astons in GT3 and GT4) so... make that what you want.

"including models from a premium manufacturer which will be making its debut in AMS2."

It's FORD, because they told about new NASCAR content and GT3.

Premium
Interesting to see they have upped the core count from 2 to 4, increasing performance even further. It’s heartening to read the progress they are making with the inherited engine, its good to be a master of your tools and it plays well into future development avenues.

My guess is not Italian, but a premium manufacturer that would cover Hypercars, GT3 and GT4: Aston Martin. Gimme those Valkyrie V12 noises 🔥 Here's hoping, anyway.

They told about Aston GT1 2005.

"and as the main contenders in 1970 and 1971 were the Porsche 917 and Ferrari 512 variants entered that year"
"GT1 cars on the grid, such as the Aston Martin DBR9, the Ferrari 550 GTS Maranello, or the Chevrolet Corvette C5R."

It will be FORD.

I know there are Astons in GT3 and GT4 but didnt think they raced IMSA last year. Im also in a very minority group that really dont see the fascination with the Valkyrie. It might sound good but it looks hideous and will never compete at the front without hybrid unless they really restrict the LMDH cars.

Well, at least in the image they posted, it clearly says "ACURA"

That is just a track sponsor pretty sure it's already there on longbeach
I hadn't realized that, I watched a video now and it was already there, but I also remember that of the seven brands announced last year only five were added, and once again we don't know what will really happen.

This seems to be a recurring trend with Reiza and it does make me wonder if they actually have a plan or just chuck out whatever they gain the licences for first. We got an announcement in January i think it was that there would be dlc pretty much every month this year for AMS2 yet here we are middle of march and only just getting the first. (not that it really bothers me as not currently in a position to be spending willy nilly on dlc)

Correction: these do indeed have a handbrake IRL (SST) and the game should reflect it.

When I worked for a GR Cup team we shared a paddock with SST and I got a good look at these. The bar isn't just for show, if you watch any onboards from Robby Gordon, he's constantly using little pulls to help it rotate.

I was hoping for some more dirt & Rally tracks to pad out the initial adrenaline pack. Maybe some wider Dirtfish layouts like AMS1

Don’t rely on an overtake article to have accurate information 😉
Handbrake works fine in game and is kinda handy in more ways than you would think .

User experiences vary... Like so many other things on this engine...

For a lot of people the handbrake is simply an on/off switch even if they have analog handbrakes... For others it works better than Dirt Rally 2.0...

It's never going to be a RBR level sim... So roll the dice and hope for the best... Just expect if you have problems to be told "it's a you issue" or "time to upgrade"... :whistling: :roflmao:

Assuming the article is wrong and the trucks are modeled in game with a handbrake...

That makes my recent decision to give away my handbrake either be a positive as I now get to upgrade to a load-cell unit, Or a negative as I no longer have a handbrake.
