Assetto Corsa EVO was updated to v0.1.4 this week, with the next round of fixes, changes, and promises. With a cryptic hint of when the online servers will return and the promise of VR and triple-screen optimisations, the future looks bright for Assetto Corsa EVO.

Now in full development, the sim racing community expects big things from Kunos Simulazioni and Assetto Corsa EVO. However, this new update fails to add the elusive reactivation of the online servers, consequently keeping the Driving Academy features that were very briefly available in a previous update behind closed doors for now.

Cryptically hidden at the bottom of the patch notes, Kunos details, "The online servers will be arriving soon for all." Only Kunos truly knows what their definition of "Soon" entails.

The positive aspects of this update are that the optimisations for triple-screen and VR users seem to have improved things rather nicely. While imperfect, many changes and adjustments have been made, so we implore you to give Assetto Corsa EVO another try on your triples or VR. Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Version 0.1.4. is now live. This includes:

AUDIO:
- reworked music system to result in better reliability and improved fading
- new music for menu, gameplay and ending sessions
- fixed potential issue when audio device is lost

- optimized triple screen GPU performance
- improved car reflections to be more cubemap resolution independent (notably medium setting has an improved quality)
- fixed an issue on resource indexing (fixes some of the minor AMD-specific glitches)

GRAPHICS:
- fixed missing mesh skinning from the Alfa Romeo Junior front springs
- fixed minor visual issues on the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm
- fixed Hyundai i30 N LOD issues with lights
- fixed an issue with the AMG GT2 lights colour inherit
- fixed a missing default rim customization definition of a Toyota GR86 configuration

PHYSICS:
- fixed BMW M4 CSL ride height limits
- fixed BMW M4 CSL launch control
- raised minimum pressure in setup limits
- adjusted minimum tyre pressure limits

Updates to server infrastructure to enable online mode for all will be arriving soon.

Outside of the VR and triple screen changes, the stability of the game and graphical bugs have been addressed on the Hyundai i30 N and the BMW M4 CSL. Although this update appears small, it is a nice addition for Assetto Corsa EVO leading up to the reintegration of the Driving Academy.

For flickering shadows try to disable ambient occlusion.
I finally got around to try this. It helps with some pop-in/flickering, thanks!
But that's not what I meant, so I made this little comparison video.

On the left: Triple Mode, 8x MSAA, Filmic AA to max, FXAA on. Quite blurry, but I just wanted to try maximum AA possible.
On the right: Single Screen Mode, DLSS with the new dll set to balanced, 0x MSAA.

Set the video quality to 4k to see it better.
It's not worse, than some games without proper AA are and it would be tolerable, but when you know it could look like the right side.. meh.

Is there any news on developer tools? I can't find information about that, but ready to bring new tracks as soon as Kunos release some tools! It will be a disappointment if EVO makes the same mistake ACC did (no mods).

It's by far the most popular hardcore online sim, why play around with successful formula ;)

For now... With the 5000 series Nvidia already managed to reduce the lag by a huge margin.

Surprises me is no charts for X3D turbo mode, I know ACE is not ACC engine.
Lot of people still on W10 may be are missing out on frames too, especially with latest gen hardware.

My GTX 980 is under the minumum specs, so I can't complain much if the optimisation for me is minimal and I can barely reach 30fps with just one car on certain parts of the track, with Very Low graphic details. Well, last week it was 24fps max...

I guess I have to wait several months before I'll be able to play this game at 60fps with Very Low graphic details.
Sadly, at this point for me playing online will be useless, because I would only harm other people, with my driving full of input lag.

ACC runs smoothly at 60fps with 29 cars and a more than decent graphic detail. So I hope once the game is at its final stage, the optimization for my PC will be as good as for ACC. Or maybe for that date, I decided to buy a new GPU...

VR performance in Practice mode improved going from 70 FPS on Very Low to 90 FPS on Low, with Virtual Desktop set to High. In all other sims I use High-Ultra in-game settings with VD on Ultra or Godlike. So there is still a lot of room for improvement here. I also tried a race with only 9 AI and the screen totally froze on the startgrid. So unplayable. All on a RTX 4080, Ryzen 7 7800 X3D, 32GB memory and a Quest 3.

Stable tools are a priority for internal development also, so it's the same for Kunos developers in that sense.
It's not stable tools, it is the support that's needed.
You can't release something and let us figure it out.
Need a team for that too, they are doing something more important now.

That can be regarded as a high end system. If it runs unplayable on this.
I don't even try hooking up my Q3, on a 3080ti.
In general the game looks ok, but not for how much recourses it needs to get acceptable fps.
They still need to optimize a lot, or we have to wait for the nV 6000 series ;)

I'm not so much concerned about the graphics, they will optimize it for sure, but what I'm worried about is the physics or the car and tire model and of course the FFB. In general it all feels so arcadish, its more like driving NFS series, then Assetto Corsa. Seems like there is no clear feedback from the car, tires an ffb of the base. And I set my base Fanatec v2.5 properly, to eliminate any slug or unwanted damping, to get the most effects out of it.

I can compare ACE to LMU which is the one to beat in that regard at this moment in time, but so far it doesn't come even close. I hope Kunos works on these very important features seriously and intensively. Because This is the core of the game, and AC (and netKar Pro) franchise is/was well known by realism, which I can't say its true for the ACE yet.

Damn, I'd love to try this in VR but from what I can read here it's still not optimized (running a Ryzen 7 5800X / 3070). Hope we'll get there soon™.

You deserve a medal for trying any modern game with a 10 year old graphic. I think I have Titan XP gathering dust on my shelf if you were my neighbor I’d give it to you!

I just downloaded 0.1.4 this morning, but my FFB (Logitech G923PC/PS) makes a very very almost inaudible zooming noise when driving in a straight line and has a tiny xx Hz frequency in the 'steering column' (dunno how to explain it).

I adjusted al the three Damping stuff bars from '15' to 'zero' but to no avail. I never use TrueFORCE( so that one is at 'zero') but it's still there. I tried two cars(Giulia/296) and they both have it.

In AC1 the steering is just quiet /not zooming/trembling. What can this be? 0.1.3 was totally quiet...

Cheers
Robin

If you want, please post screenshots of your Fanatec and Evo settings. One of my teammates loves Evo and currently only drives LMU.
So maybe there's something "wrong" - or he is an idiot, might very well be the case haha.

Try to set "Vibrations" at the bottom of the ffb settings to 0.
I thought it was only for Gamepad, but interestingly it does include some vibrations into the ffb too!

MAYBE (if nothing helps) deleting the (make a copy first) ''input_devices'' file in C: Users / documents/ACE folder will help, start game and set the controllers up again

HEHE, I doubt he is, although there is always a small chance ;) :). I will post my settings when I get home, so we can exchange them.

It seems that we all have different ideas and expectations on what "Early Access" is, and to that end I posted a poll yesterday asking this very question, to try and understand where the community stands on this. My ideas certainly differ from others here

It hasn't got much traction so far, with only seven votes at the moment, which isn't enough to be able to draw any conclusions, so it'd be nice if a few of you could pop over to https://www.overtake.gg/threads/what-do-you-expect-from-an-early-access-title.280403/ and click on what you think "Early Access" should be.

I have a gtx 1060 6gb, 4790k and 16gb DDR3 RAM :roflmao:
It runs everything I want to play, AMS1, rF2 and AC, the former even in VR without much trouble. But to play AC Evo, and crucially, for it to look better than those games, I'd have to spend a grand at least on a new PC. Will AC Evo be worth that to me personally, as someone who pretty much exclusively runs historic F1 seasons, which with 'curated' mods will be out of bounds? Probably not.

Imo "Early Access" can be anything from just a window with a menu to exit to just a few bug fixes away from the final product.
The big issue with this launch was the communication.
Sure, you could say that all statements were about the 1.0, but saying your new engine would be super duper and then having it run like a piece of garbage for the majority of users, even on high-end PCs, is quite misleading.

However, I'm completely fine with it, since I expected this and love the driving itself already.

My Logitech G923 racing wheel started making weird noises after the last update (0.1.4). It happened while I was playing, and the noise was really similar to the engine sound in the game, which is super annoying. I tried turning it off and on again, but it didn't help, and the noise just ruined my gaming experience.
