This is all I install on a fresh W11, only the things can't be installed another way.
I have most every sim app and tools and 95% is standalone.
Registry exports and merges and standalones apps work little better for mine.

The only thing I really really like on Win 11 is the handling of multiple monitors.
No edges where the mouse gets stuck on. Feels just more natural.

And when you power off one or more monitors, it saves all positions and goes back to how it was for each combination.

The edges the mouse gets stuck on you disable "ease cursor movement between displays"

If you have 2 different aspects in extended turning this off will stop the mouse from going past the start menu when say right monitor is set as primary ( secondary HDMI )
1st Monitor will always be taken by DP is a bust.

You can also move monitors up and down to change where mouse will cut to other screen ;)
This helps heaps if you use mouse " quickly" but don't like that silly drag mouse to boxes.

Positioning does not work for everything, some apps will get stuck on a turned off screen
I don't call that intuitive at all.
Also apps using batch run which saves exact positioning in settings but does not reproduce it.
Like 4 of my 8 apps I start when I click batch file " Start Sims " still need moving every time.

Best thing is REICON with that I can set multi icon layouts for various monitor configs. and restore 100% - https://www.sordum.org/8366/reicon-v2-0-restore-desktop-icon-layouts/

Name configs for each tower and monitor setup ;) Doh just noticed updated to v2.0 now.

P.S. I tested that multi monitor app you have to pay for supposed to do everything but just turns your PC into a slug instead :roflmao:

Others to avoid like the plague, Corsair ICE , UltraGear monitor software,

Microsoft can be strange about licenses.
I purchased Win8 then upgraded to 8.1 then Win10 to Win11.
Two days after a recent motherboard switch, Windows activation legend showed it's head.
I had to buy a Win10 key to reactivate Win11.

I just buy W11 Pro retail keys.
Bill don't care he just wants your credentials.
Never had issue with this site brought probably 25 W10 and W11 keys for myself and other's towers I have worked on.
All my W10 Home and W11 Pro keys are registered with Bill.
Once they are I never log into Microsoft again.

Has anyone updated their Windows 11 system to 24H2? I’m extremely hesitant to do so based on the negative press concerning it.

I been on 24H2 since media tool was released.
Run all sims have nothing but smooth running.
Have it on 3 towers with W11 Pro retail
7800X3D - RTX4080S
8500G - RX6600 *New everyday tower
5600X - RTX3080 *Can't sell
3400G - VEGA11 *Giving to neighbor

My advice is same as always don't touch your existing setup yet.
Buy a cheap small SSD and 2nd thumb drive for24H2.

Thanks so much for your reply. Forgive me for my ignorance, but you recommended to, "

Currently my Windows installation is on an SSD and was a fresh installation about 6 months ago based on the latest 23H2 build at the time. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

1. Buy a 128GB M2 ( if you have a spare slot ) or a sata
I saw one on NewEgg for $10 .....I mean even if you don't use it again it's no biggie.

2. Buy another 8GB thumb drive so as not to overwrite 23H2 thumb drive

3. Download media tool and do thumb drive with 24H2.

4. Disconnect power lead or disable in Bios your 23H2 drive.

5. Run W11 thumb drive

6. Install W11 24H2 on 128GB SSD ...more then enough room.
Test Test Test :)

Now you can test 24H2 and continue to use your 23H2 when you need.
I would recommend just disable which ever you not using.

If you decide 24H2 is okay you could just keep it as Primary drive
Or if you have a faster Sata then use that, backing everything up properly before you begin of course.

=======

For me that is better way then wiping your 23H2 and installing 24H2.
For sure first day you will find things you don't like and most likely will swap back again to 23H2.
This way gives you proper time to explore 24H2 and seek fixes for any issues you have with it.

Thanks so much for the very detailed response. I'm not sure I have the skills to do what you outlined here. I'm just going to hold off on this update for a while/ Thanks again.

Yeah if you have to think about it best left ;)

Only alternative then is to cross your fingers. lol
If you want to roll back Windows 11 24H2, you can do so from Recovery options in Settings. To downgrade to 23H2 seamlessly, you must perform the rollback within 10 days of updating. After the 10-day period, you will have to manually install the older Windows 11 23H2 build.

Read Social and it's a nightmare lol
Personally I think they all video rabbits spreading personal experiences as facts.
In next breath the same people will tell you to load up After Burner, Magician, Crate, Cue and any other number of resourcing sucking crap

Spooky Windows Update...

Over recently my little "This PC" icon would start at/near bottom left of my screen, this annoyed me because I'd have to move it up to where I like it and always (since at least Win 7) had it... top left, I've asked the internet on a few occasions why it kept moving away from where I repeatedly move it to (top left) and most people are confused by the word Why, and try to tell me how to solve it, something I hadn't asked, but I had followed their instructionss and the very next day it was back in the wrong place on start-up.

However a couple of days ago I had an update and this morning noticed that the little "This PC" icon was top left... I wondered if I'd moved it and somehow forgotten to rant, so I shut down the PC and resterted it... Behold the little "This PC" icon was indeed in the top left where I wish it to be, I wasn't imagining it it's changed all by itself.
Something going so right could be an omen of a great evil to come... so I'll celebrate quietly, and hope for the best.

The little 'This PC' icon has go back to being rogue, and is no longer in the top left of my screen, and once again needs to be placed there manually, it's returned to it's post update position lower left... Microsoft really do employ halfwit ideas.
At least I had a week and a half with it in the traditional win7-10 position

Is this about your desktop? Perhaps having trouble with auto arrange icons. I have it disabled but as soon as you switch to different monitors, the desktop icons might reposition themselves again. It's a bit messy sometimes.

Yeah, never had auto arrange on, I place my icons in groups or clusters, Race games/sims, space games, adventure games, etc placed around the outside of my screen, but the left is for programs like VLC, internet and VPN... and up the top of that (column) is 'This PC' and the 'Recycle bin'
But Windows keeps moving 'This PC' down the column... I hate it, I really do.

And I can see absolutely no reason for it to be so... other than to tee folks

It's not auto arrange, that puts them altogether.
It's "align to grid" you need to set as the screenshot shows.
Then you can group icons anyway you like.

Nightmare is if you use 2 different resolutions for extended mode and swap primary monitors.

REICON
This will save all icon layouts for any screen combinations :x3:

Same with open windows, people say W11 is better, try it with 2 resolutions in extended mode and get back to me. Most windows will save positions but lots don't.
Others will refuse to open and are stuck on one screen if you have switched back to single monitor or changed primary. Better then W10 ? I don't think so.

Oh and this program https://www.displayfusion.com/ supposed to be the bees knees for multi screen. Most useless lagging resource sucking pos I have ever used ! :coffee:
