The Ferrari 275P2, 330P2 and 365P2 are all varieties of the Ferrari's endurance racer from 1965 to 1966. From Le Mans to state-side in Sebring and under the baking sun of Kyalami, every version of this fantastic Ferrari is covered in this mod pack for you to enjoy right here on OverTake.gg!

Creator and 3-D modeller NPanic is to be commended for bringing this unbelievably good mod pack to the masses. In the mod description, he mentions that his OCD is partly responsible for the detail and obsession required to build a mod pack like this.

"This car, or should I say these three cars, are a direct result of suffering from completion complex, otherwise known as OCD. RacingSportscars is a beautiful website to scroll through and take in the history of every entry in every sportscar race ever, but, if you are a 3D modeler like me, it can also be a source of never-ending work. For better or worse, this has lead me to create almost every single body variation for the cars as seen in 1965, and some 1966 entries as well." - NPanic

NPanic is no rookie in the world of sim racing mods; he has contributed to numerous projects and mod packs in the past, but this is the first pack under his name on OverTake.gg! Check it out and give him some feedback in the comments section of the mod listing!

All three variants in this pack offer slightly different racing and driving experiences. While they feel relatively similar, the cars' appearances differ. If you're looking to recreate a race from this era accurately, it's recommended that you read through the history of these cars to choose the right vehicle for the correct circuit.

The History

The prancing horse scored its first outright victories for a mid-engined car at the vitally important races at Le Mans in 1963 and 1964. The cars they used were relatively simple evolutions of the same design they had previously used: the 250 P and 275 P. The company's jump in innovation and evolution came as a response to Ford's new GT40 program threatening the Italian crown. As a result, a more substantial evolution, the 275/330 P2, was developed for the 1965 season.

The P2 carried over the company's rigorously tested steel tubular spaceframe chassis with double-wishbone suspension on all four corners. The brand-new aluminium bodywork was recognisably different. To increase the aerodynamic efficiency of the somewhat lacking previous generation, all of the panels on the P2 were wrapped considerably tighter around the mechanical parts, leaving much less room between each component and, therefore, creating a much flatter surface. Other innovations and evolutions were added, like a narrower windshield and a new roll-over hoop behind the driver. This also doubled as a primitive aerofoil.

The Ford GT40s' monstrous small block V8 made the American marque a real threat to Ferrari. So what did the Italians do? They developed a brand new V12, of course. Ferrari created a twin-cam head for factory-backed cars, which were available in 3.3 and 4-litre displacements. These new quad-cam V12s produced between 350 and 410 bhp. Ferrari also made the P2 available with a 4.4-litre single-cam V12 for customer teams, known as the 365 P2.

The success was scattered with retirements at the Daytona 2000km and at Le Mans that year, but other European calendar events saw Ferrari leash Ford's GT40s. Victories at the iconic Targa Florio, Nürburgring 1000km, Monza 1000km and Reims 1000km races all brought Ferrari back to the forefront of sportscar racing, despite the lack of any overall or class wins at Le Mans for the factory cars, a privately entered previous generation 250 LM scored Ferrari's final ever Le Mans win until the Hyperera of 2024.

Thank you @NPanic for this outstanding addition to our extensive Assetto Corsa car collection. Your work, passion and attention to details makes this particular car an exceptional VR classic race car experience.

Thank you @Connor Minniss for this and other articles on content simulating our beloved past and present motorsport treasure. The historic context of each work is the cherry on the top.

The contribution of modders like NPanic, is what, to me, even more than what the developers are trying to do, is at the heart of my simulator passion. The modders can bring to life, away from corporate or even mere economic necessities, exceptional content, across all geography and periods, that, alone, makes owning a VR, DD, expensive GPU, tactile, worth every penny.
So, thank you, for this piece of SIM heaven.

I downloaded these yesterday. They are awesome and a great addition to AC. You can recreate most of the 1965 24 hours of Le Mans grid just with these and Bazza's cars. A few of the others you can find on the net. I'd love to find the Triumph Spitfire from that race. I have seen Triumphs, but not that particular model. Anyways, thanks very much NPanic, your cars are much appreciated.
