After a week off from the surprisingly entertaining Miami Grand Prix sprint weekend, we go to the first round of the European season, a circuit drenched in rich and sadly tragic Formula One history for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Imola.
A sprint victory for Lando Norris and another Grand Prix win for Oscar Piastri were the headlines from the race weekend in Miami, although the young Kimi Antonelli managed to steal the show in Sprint Qualifying with his maiden pole position.

But in addition to the McLarens making waves, there was also that incredible Sprint pole for Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli, an astonishing Grand Prix pole lap from Max Verstappen, and heaps of drama on race day.
Alpine, Miami 2025. Image: Renault SAS
It is a significant loss for his fans, but Alpine is not necessarily putting all of its proverbial eggs in the Colapinto basket moving forward. Doohan will continue with the team as a test and reserve driver, and the swap is being evaluated after the next five race weekends.

In light of Doohan's exit from the grid for the time being, several drivers voiced support for the 22-year-old during media day at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, including his countryman Oscar Piastri.
Charles Leclerc, Ferrari. Image: Formula One
Ferrari has had a pretty rough start to 2025, especially with the expectations riding on Leclerc and teammate Lewis Hamilton's shoulders. With one of their stars out unwell, that could spell disaster for the prancing horse at their home race. Their secret weapon? Their Italian reserve driver, Antonio Giovonazzi.
The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix is not only the opening weekend for the European Formula One season but also Ferrari's first of two home races. With Ferrari's golden boy potentially out ill, it is not the start to the calendar's most prestigious series of races that the Italian Marque would have hoped for.

After a strong start to the campaign for the reigning Teams' Champions, the papaya outfit put in one of their strongest displays yet at the Miami International Autodrome as Oscar Piastri led home Norris in a 1-2 result.
Piastri showcased the impressive performance of the MCL39 by finishing a remarkable 37 seconds ahead of Mercedes' George Russell, who took third place. This victory not only solidified Piastri's lead in the Drivers' Championship but also extended McLaren's advantage over Mercedes to a substantial 105 points in the Teams' standings.
Despite this strong position, Norris expects that the team will have a smaller edge over their competitors for Round 7 at Imola, a track where he has previously achieved three podium finishes.
Piastri and Norris secured a dominant 1-2 finish for McLaren at the Miami Grand Prix. During Thursday's media day, Norris humorously expressed his hope for a repeat of their Miami performance, stating, "I hope so! That would be lovely and make my life easier."

Colapinto in, Doohan out
The threat of the Argentinian Franco Colapinto has been hanging over Jack Doohan since his first time stepping into his 2025 Alpine Formula One car. The threat has been there, and unfortunately for the Aussie, Alpine has pulled the trigger.Alpine, Miami 2025. Image: Renault SAS
