Update 0.2 for Assetto Corsa EVO launches on May 7, 2025, and it does not just include new content. Performance optimization and offline playability are centerpieces of the new Early Access release.
Update day is here for Assetto Corsa EVO: Almost three months after the most recent update, Kunos Simulazioni are launching the second Early Access release of their upcoming simulator at 14:00 UTC on May 7, 2025. Version 0.2 will feature seven new cars and two new tracks, but that is not all - the long wait was also caused by a lot of work that went on under the hood.
First and foremost, performance improvements are on board. According to Chief Technology Officer Stefano Casillo, the optimization "is probably the most obvious improvement in the update", as he stated on the Assetto Corsa Discord. "At least I hope so, because PCs can be unpredictable, but all our PCs saw big improvements in both raw FPS and pacing (smoothness), so hopefully it'll be a massive win like we are seeing in the studio."
This should be good news for sim racers who are looking to run AC EVO in VR or using Triple Screen setups as well - both see "Stage 2" of their integration as part of the update.
Another message of Casillo's explained that v0.2 "sadly will wipe out the progress because we are moving it offline. Hopefully in the future, we'll be able to keep the progress and this remains the only occurrance." Progression being tied to the game being online had caused that part of the initial Early Access release not to work in January, as the servers were not working as intended. This was rectified in early February.
This offline move happens alongside the integration of Open Mode / Career Mode and Single Player / Custom Race Weekend, as Kunos have announced them to be part of the update.
"We're fully committed to it. We'll try to expose everything we have in the game", reads another message on the official Assetto Corsa Discord. "So if we can do something in our cars, then modders should be able to do it as well."
That would hint at rather in-depth possibilities once the tools are released. However, in the beginning, focus will likely be on cars and tracks, as Casillo identifies them as "priorities" in another message.
OverTake is certainly ready for it: Our Assetto Corsa EVO modding section already has subfolders for cars, tracks, sounds, skins and more. Keep an eye on it so you won't miss the point when it starts filling up!

Progress Wiped & Moved Offline
Meanwhile, the update also means a full reset of progress in Assetto Corsa EVO, with players starting from zero again. Sadly, this means that those who have put hours upon hours into getting gold medals in the title's Academy will have to do so again - but for good reason, it would seem.Another message of Casillo's explained that v0.2 "sadly will wipe out the progress because we are moving it offline. AC EVO Modding: "Fully Committed To It"
While modding tools will not be part of the v0.2 update for AC EVO yet, they will arrive before the game's full release instead of after that, as was initially planned. No additional details were discussed, but Casillo also shed some light on the topic:"We're fully committed to it.
