Assetto Corsa EVO: Offline-Only & Modding Tools To Arrive In Early Access

In Kunos Simulazioni's keynote video detailing the next stages for Assetto Corsa EVO's early access release, Marco Massarutto - Co-Founder and Managing Director of Kunos - revealed plenty of information including the modding tools that will debut before the title's full release.

There was plenty of information revealed in the Assetto Corsa EVO "what's next" video, such as new tracks like Donington and Red Bull Ring, as well as cars including the McMurtry Spéirling and what seemed to be a Ferrari F2004. But of course, what AC players want is to be able to mod, and that will arrive for EVO much earlier than anticipated.

Starting the video, Marco Massarutto in a rather fresh bit of honesty admits that they "got it wrong" with the initial Early Access release for ACE. Claiming that the team are constantly looking at feedback both in the Steam reviews and on social media platforms, they are taking this constructive criticism and encourage everyone to follow suit.

Assetto Corsa EVO: What is New?

One of the points Massarutto touched upon is a greater attempt to definitively divide both the career mode where players can buy cars with an in-game currency (akin to Gran Turismo) and the open mode in which players can just select any car and track to drive without following any strict criteria. One aspect that many players will be happy to hear: no required online connection.

Many video game releases as of late have been met with intense criticism for being always online-only, even in offline events. Plenty of these games tend to become unplayable if they are taken offline either through connection issues or the developers choosing to end support for the title. Kunos of course will have seen the disdain for this practice and decided to go against it, which will undoubtedly be music to many single player only people's ears.

Assetto Corsa EVO Early Access Roadmap.jpg

The roadmap will now be altered going forward, starting with version 2.0 of early access. Image: Kunos Simulazioni

They go on to reference that the roadmap for the early access will be tweaked, with the next update set to receive more content than initially planned. It was already set to feature five cars plus Circuit of the Americas, now it will feature additional cars with some further optimisations set to be made to improve EVO's performance for triple screen and virtual reality as well as AI opponents.

Multiplayer is expected for release during the summer, with the team set to focus on implementing netcode functionality after the release for early access 2.0 build.

Plus what will surely make many longtime AC players very happy, modding is set to arrive before the v1.0, so still in the sim's Early Access phase, with the hope of being able to figure out a way of implementing the model for mod exchanging into the game and iron out some potential issues before the game's full release.

If they will listen and correct bad decisions, this is the biggest and most important news.

Shame bad decision, ensure the Best features come to fruition and folks will gladly buy it and copies for their friends.

No forced online only nonsense. I hope the update shows their words and actions match.

So many simple good fundamental ideas that have been around since before Y2K being implemented could catapult this to the absolute top. Fingers crossed.

ok so Mid Summer ('s night dreams.... ) is July 15th. Early Summer is before then.. Let's see if we have proper multiplayer servers on prem saving replay/telem data for official league scoring with spectate distribution netclouds.

With AI filling out the field on server, spectating AI races as EvoTV - "watching" 24/7 in the background. Fantastico!

So, does this mean that there won't be game version updates before the Easter holiday?
But after watching this video, I feel like I have the patience to wait for it. Kunos is becoming increasingly charming.

I am really excited about the McMurtry Speirling and the Honda NSX-R.

Maybe I’m not good at reading but Multiplayer was always plan to be release in the third big update (we are waiting the second one). What are changed there ?

Also Summer is the plan for Free Roaming. I’m a bit unconfident about the lack of info about it. They give all « good news » but does that mean we should expect Multiplayer AND Free Roaming in the summer ? Looks a bit big.

So long as that means "Offline only for literally everything except 'Entering races against other humans'" then finally. Good they listened, bad it took 3 months and a tonne of bad will for the title for something that was obvious to everyone well before day 1.

EDIT : Oh so it isn't, they've still artificially locked the "game" bit behind servers that don't work? F'Sake.

i think i m wrong about this game now they will include modding support and if just like assetto corsa we will see all formula 1 seasons in this new game

If, and that's a big "if", the modding scene for this title is even half as large as AC then I think this sim has real potential for the future. The problem is that it will probably take 2 to 3 years to get there. Not one of the cars they have released, or are on this list to be released, excite me at all. Hopefully this pans out in the future. I'm patient, I can wait.

The only thing that worries me is that developers (especially today) say a thing before or after launch, and later slip new things in as updates, for whatever reason they deem necessary. Kunos has always been a trusted developer, so I hope that doesn't happen with this title. That's the reason that I didn't purchase it as of yet, but now they're confirming things that I hoped to hear to warrant a purchase.

Great to know that offline will give me access to the whole game. I don't want or need online. So yeah, I am excited for the future. Thank you Kunos, you have restored my faith.

That settles my biggest concern!
