BeamNG.drive has discontinued support for the Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and Ubuntu 20.04 operating systems, but how will this affect your playing experience?

What does this mean for your playing experience?

You do not need to do anything if you already use Windows 10/11 or Ubuntu 22.04 or newer. Your experience will continue seamlessly with BeamNG.drive, so do not worry about uninstalling the game to reinstall it.

However, if you play BeamNG.drive on an older operating system, BeamNG.drive may no longer function properly. Directly from the developers:

"We strongly encourage you to upgrade your operating system as soon as possible." - BeamNG.drive Development Team

Why is this necessary?

This change is not an in-house decision made by the developers. Industry-wide decisions and software requirements beyond the control of BeamNG.drive itself have influenced this decision, especially with Microsoft continuing to discontinue support for older Windows versions.

If upgrading to Windows 10 or better is not an option, you can still play BeamNG.drive by setting Beta Participation to 'None' and turning off automatic updates.

Microsoft officially ended support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 between 2020 and 2023. Steam and Epic Games ended their support in January 2024 and June 2024.

What do you think about this newest update to BeamNG.drive? Will this affect your playing experience?

It doesn't affect me as I don't have the game but I do have the correct version of windows!
But if the developers allow for a downloadable 'legacy' version that will not recieve further updates then the folks that don't want to upgrade their OS for reasons of their own could still enjoy it, it could be a partial solution, after all, they should still be able to play the games that they paid for.

I believe there is an option within Steam to choose a legacy version of certain titles to stick with if they need to :)

Yeah, but it's relatively few games. It's done through the beta participation option, and you can only download an earlier version if the dev/publisher has allowed it.

However you got me thinking, so I scurried of to the depths of the dark web (youtube actually) and found this interesting video

I've not tried it yet but if it works I'll be heading back to ACC 1.8.
