BeamNG.drive is not the simulator you think of for circuit-based endurance racing. However, with these community mods for an LMP2 car and a GT3 car in BeamNG, you can begin to build up your racing career at Daytona, Le Mans or wherever else with ease.
While not a title usually attributed to long-form endurance racing, BeamNG has a partner in crime that allows the sim to have these incredible community creations: Automation. The LMP2 prototype class has been in the sim racing limelight for the last month, being a dark horse in Automobilista 2's v1.6 update.

This mod for BeamNG has a documented build process from the content creator, fillman86. Check out the video down below to get a good idea of how to build your own prototype car within Automation. Despite the inadvertently phallic car name, the car is a good example of what can be built in Automation.
The car has changed since the date of the video above. The most noticeable change is that it now matches the power and downforce numbers of the real LMP2 car on which the design was based: the 2011 pole-sitter chassis, the Oreca 03 of Signatech Nissan.
With these changes implemented, the car handles with more predictability and with less of an attitude. Whilst not an exact replica, this is pretty much as close as you could wish to get in Automation with the mechanical limitations in place.

Suppose you want to set up a multi-class scenario with the LMP2 and GT3. A variant of the Civetta Scintilla with custom parts, aero, and power is available on the repository. Check it out here!
The Scintilla, while still based on a supercar frame, has an entirely new bodykit and racing slicks. This mod creates an excellent base for an evolving GT3 class of cars within BeamNG. The electrical assist of ABS and Traction Control have already been brilliantly implemented, and the aero effect has greatly improved over the last year. This could be a great starting place for racing this class in BeamNG.

BeamNG has a long way to go to being considered a racing simulator, but it is surprisingly fun and impressive for a title that is not focused on making racing its only goal. The community's dedication to creating fantastic racing content shows BeamNG's potential, and we can only hope that the developers add some more racing-based content in the future.
What do you think about racing in BeamNG? What needs to be added or changed in the title for you to consider investing your time into it? Let us know in the comments down below!
