The OverTake Racing Club goes back in time once again: The rFactor 2 GT Revival is headed to the classic Nürburgring - to the lesser-known Südschleife of the Green Hell.

Classic GT cars and the historic Nürburgring - always a good combination, right? Chucking your powerful but fickle race car over the crests at Flugplatz and Schwedenkreuz, finding the ideal entry into the Karussell, maximizing your exit from Galgenkopf for that perfect run down Döttinger Höhe - that's what you would expect to usually do in an event with that combo.
Our Racing Club has a slightly different plan for its rFactor 2 event on May 8, however.

Instead of the fearsome Nordschleife, drivers will have to prevail on the smaller and often overlooked Südschleife. Measuring roughly 7.75 kilometers, this part of the track was rarely used after 1968, and it was not modernized like the Nordschleife was in 1970 and 1971. Once the start/finish loop was torn down to make room for the modern Grand Prix circuit, the Südschleife was completely abandoned, but most of it is still there and being used as access roads.
The former track is relatively rare in sim racing these days. Mods add it to rF2 and Assetto Corsa, but the first and only first-party rendition can be found in Automobilista 2, which even allows sim racers to run the combined layout of both Nordschleife and Südschleife - the so-called Gesamtstrecke was a 28-kilometer behemoth that was used for the 84-hour Marathon de la Route in the 1960s, among other (rare) occasions.
This is also available in the Nürburgring 1967 mod track for AC, uploaded by OverTake community member @WilliamTRiker - the Gesamtstrecke is one of six layouts available in total, including the famous Steilstrecke.

So, the Nürburgring Südschleife... People know all about Nordschleife, but the Südschleife is what later became the Grand Prix Circuit. But classic cars on a classic track. Yes please.
Also, the track has been updated graphically by Corti, while the track itself were made by Sergio Loro, originally a pay-mod, but now free for all. The quality is top!
