F1 25 MyTeam 2.0 & Career Mode New Details: No More Owner-Driver Role

F1 25 is launching at the end of May, and it will feature revamped MyTeam and Career Modes. Here's what Formula One fans can expect when firing up the new game.

A new year, a new Formula One season and a new official game of the World Championship - 2025 is no exception to this, with F1 25 lining up on the grid for its May 30 release. Ahead of this, the first bits of information arrive, with this first batch concerning MyTeam and Career Modes - arguably two of the most popular ways to play the F1 series of games.

What do EA Sports and Codemasters offer in these modes of this year's edition? There are quite a few changes, particularly in MyTeam, which is dubbed MyTeam 2.0 as a result, supposedly "a significant revamp of the entire meta game surrounding MyTeam", according to Creative Director Gavin Cooper.

F1 25 MyTeam 2.0

The most prominent change to MyTeam in F1 25 is that the owner-driver is no more, allowing players to take the reins of both their drivers. This does not make it a pure manager mode, however, as they will be able to choose one of their signed drivers to race as in each race.

This comes with an Owner Perks system that lets player specialize in one of the three main branches of running their team, so Engineering, Corporate and Personnel. Owner decisions grant XP that can then be invested in these branches. Meanwhile, rivalries have been adapted from Driver Career to MyTeam, which in this case means Team vs. Team rivalries.

Prestige & Split R&D System

There will be couple of other systems at work, too. Fan Rating represents your team's prestige in Formula One, and the new Sentiment is essentially a combination of the team's current form and its heritage, affecting how drivers view your team and how likely they are to want to drive for you.

This also ties into a new contract system that will have drivers' perceptions of your team change also when they are with you, depending on your decisions. For instance, R&D decisions can make or break a relationship, as that system will be split in F1 25 - so a newly-researched part will not automatically be on both cars.

Instead, you will have to build the part as well, and while you can build one for each driver at the same time, it might take longer. Conversely, it is possible to have just one upgraded part, but then you will have to choose which driver gets to have it bolted to their car.

Players will be able to hire the fictional Konnersport team's Callie Mayer (pictured) and Aiden Jackson as drivers.

F1 25 Driver Icons

Who to hire, though? Icons might be worth looking into as they return, of course. The way they are integrated into the career-based modes changes a bit, however. AI-controlled teams can now hire them as well, and players can enable or disable them individually.

As part of the tie-in with the F1 movie, the APXGP drivers can appear on the grid, and it is even possible to have the Konnersport drivers from the Braking Point story mode in the cars as well. Add to that a number of Formula 3, historical, esports and non-F1 drivers, and the pool for racing drivers is a lot bigger than just the 20 real-life pilots.

Additionally, Team Icons are a thing in F1 25 - this simply means that it is possible to add either APXGP or Konnersport to the grid as an 11th team. They can be either competitors, or you can run them or with them yourself.

New HQ Space & Sponsor Relationships

A central part of the MyTeam mode is a new HQ space that evolves as your team increases in size and improves its facilities. It also has a measure of workforce, so players can see how much personnel is working for their team. More personnel in a certain branch means faster research or build times, but also increased cost, of course. Wages need to be paid, after all.

Also new are Facility Heads, animated characters that lead one of the facilities in your team HQ and that you can interact with.

On the business side, players can build sponsor relationships over time. Loyalty leads to certain rewards, such as cash, additional XP or even special sponsor liveries that can also be used in F1 World.

More info on the game is set to follow throughout April, so watch this space for more F1 25 details to come soon.

I haven’t cared about an F1 game since 2014 - always tried it out when it was free on weekends on Steam. But this one! If you can also manage the race instead of driving the race with such in-depth myTeam mode, i’m in!

There is other F1 management games for that.

My last F1 game is F1 2019 (classic cars were the main attraction for me). I must admit this new one catches my attention. But when I rethink about these big heavy ugly sticked to the ground cars, I still have doubts. I still don't understand the regilations' logic : DRS to compensate dirty air, a bad idea to compensate a consequence of bad ideas. And bad tracks changes to compensate all the bad ideas! It seems I'm not convinced anymore, but I'll keep an eye on the game... :D

It's as if they knew in advance that manager'25 won't happen and stuffed in maximum manager-functions. interesting.
