F1 25 Sees Braking Point Return, Includes F1 Movie Crossover & Reverse Circuits

EA Sports and Codemasters have officially revealed F1 25 - the new official Formula One game is set to launch on May 30, 2025.

F1 fans and sim racers have been wondering about the radio silence around the EA Sports F1 franchise - the real Formula One season has already started, yet an announcement for a new game had not been made. Until March 24, that is, which is when the reveal trailer was scheduled for its YouTube premiere on March 26, squashing speculation about the title possibly being a multi-year release like EA Sports WRC.

Prior to that, renowned leaker billbil_kun had already predicted the release date to be May 30, 2025 - and they were right once again, just like they were last year. F1 25 is set to feature a Standard and an Iconic Edition, the former featuring Oscar Piastri, Carlos Sainz and Ollie Bearman on the cover, the latter sporting Lewis Hamilton.

There was more to spot in the reveal trailer, though - here are the main takeaways!

EA Sports F1 25 Trailer: What We Spotted

F1 25 Braking Point 3 Konnersport.jpg

Braking Point Returns

Like clockwork, the F1 series' story mode is back after sitting out for a year: Braking Point 3 sees the fictional Konnersport team back on the grid. The squad is making its way up the F1 ladder to become championship contenders in Braking Point 3. Although neither Callie Mayer nor Aiden Jackson, Konnersport's drivers from F1 23, can be seen, their cars do appear, and Mayer can be heard on the team radio.

Braking Point 3 will feature different difficulty settings to make both veterans of the series and rookies feel at home.

F3 Drivers In MyTeam?

Players will also be able to field their own team again in the MyTeam mode, which is set for a revamp as well as 'MyTeam 2.0', although no further info on what that entails is available. As one of the preorder bonuses are F3 Driver Icons, it seems like the pool of available drivers might be deeper in F1 25 and include Formula 3 talent.

F1 Movie Crossover

Konnersport are not the only fictional team to appear in F1 25, however: With the F1 movie starring Brad Pitt due to hit movie theaters this summer, the Apex GP team also appear in the game. Both of their cars can be seen in the trailer, and they will be playable in MyTeam and Driver Career modes.

The Apex GP team looks to be reserved for owners of the Iconic Edition, however: EA Sports states that those who preorder this version of the game will receive "a multitued of perks linked to cover star Lewis Hamilton and the film F1", among other goodies. Following the launch of the film, those who preordered the game's Iconic Edition "can experience [...] gameplay chapters inspired by the film featuring the APXGP team", according to EA Sports.

F1 25 Reverse Track layouts.jpg

Reverse Circuit Layouts

It appears that alternate track layouts will be in F1 25 - but possibly not the way you would think. A short sequence in the reveal trailer starting at 01:05 shows Hamilton enter the pits at Zandvoort - only to exit them in reverse direction, as pointed out by the commentary. This is followed by cars racing at Zandvoort, Silverstone, and the Red Bull Ring also in reverse direction, which is called a "game changer" in the trailer.

Whether or not reverse layouts will be available for all tracks remains to be seen. One thing is certain, though - we will never see that happen in real life, simply for safety reasons as run-offs and barriers are all placed with one direction of racing in mind.

F1 25 Melbourne LIDAR.jpg

LIDAR-scanned Tracks

Granted, this one was not exactly something you could catch in the trailer, but F1 25 will feature LIDAR-scanned tracks. For many sim racers, this should be good news, as the accuracy of the circuits in the F1 franchise has been called into question repeatedly in previous years, so more accurate layouts, surfaces, and surroundings will be present.

Interestingly, the EA Sports press release states that this will be implemented for "several tracks" rather than all of them. The screenshot above shows Melbourne to be one of them.

F1 25 Price

Interestingly, F1 25 is set to be a bit cheaper than its predecessor at launch, with prices set at €59.99 / $59.99 / £49.99 for the Standard Edition and €79.99 / $79.99 / £69.99 for the Iconic Edition. Those who preorder the latter get to access the game three days early, starting on May 27. Owners of F1 23 or F1 24 get a 15% loyalty discount on the Iconic Edition - and a set of 2025 liveries to use in F1 24, presumably to bridge the gap until F1 25 releases.

reverse circuits : that not new in simracing in general but new in official f1 game i hope be available for legendary tracks like monza ,spa , silvestone etc
new braking points : finally that what i like a lot to make the game like story game
lewis in ferrari : that new in world of motorsport
and what a suprise for price from 70 dollars to 60 dollars that what we want in this game and from now
just to add the game will not support keyboard and mouse i guess (as i see from steam webpage) only controller and wheel that not what most keyboard and mouse players but i ll accept it

I have to admit, I don't care too much about reverse layouts, and certainly not the F1 Movie tie-in.
Wonder how they will change up MyTeam.

Anyway, I will be on the lookout for any free weekends. As, if nothing else. There is a story to continue, and I am not ashamed to admit that I liked the first two.

Me too. Plus I am hoping by the wording in the announcement, there will be alternative outcomes as opposed to the linear story from the previous two.

A game that tries to get as close to a real F1 experience as possible and then adds driving tracks in reverse? That is something for AC with RSS or VRC F1 mods, but not for the official F1 game.

"F1 fans and sim racers have been wondering about the radio silence around the EA Sports F1 franchise"

Well... not really, to be honest. ;)

Oh, wasting their time, resources, and money with the pointless Breaking Point again (the spelling was deliberate by the way, before anybody goes pedantic medieval on me)

Anyway, I really can't see myself buying this unless it is lauded with significant critical acclaim. The long standing bugs which are sort of resolved but then rear their ugly heads again in the next version, and the total lack of progression of the game series just puts me off and leaves me cold. It's the same game now as it was in 2015, just with some model, livery and driver changes.

I understand that it's a casual game in many respects so I can accept the physics will be tuned for playability rather than realism, and honestly aren't that bad when considering the actual driving experience. However, I won't say that it's "simcade" as I feel that has become a derogatory term used by gatekeeper basement dwellers to describe sims that do not meet their particular, and worryingly obsessive, expectations.

That said, one thing that really grinds my gears more than it probably should, is that all the cars have exactly the same fake unrealistic DDU image on the wheel which looks nothing like the DDU images on the real cars. Even if the teams are reticent to provide a basic template for their DDU layout the devs could at least mix it up a bit and make some realistic looking DDU layouts for each car.

it looks like it aims more at the Mario Kart audience than the real F1 experience
You say Mario Kart but when Yannik and I were talking, I said Gran Turismo since a lot of their original circuits are possible to run in reverse

If this is enough for users, that’s already a bad sign and really sad. Looking at the many casual players, it seems they can be fed anything the reviews for F1 24 are positive even though it’s one of the worst selling entries in the series and, as usual, it’s full of bugs. Every year, the same things happen no improvements, no bug fixes. If someone had to untangle the code, no one would even know where to start. The original code might not even exist anymore to rebuild it properly. I can imagine a lot of things.

Anyway, it’s painful to watch this struggle continue year after year, with the same team being cheered back despite everything. It doesn’t take a genius to see that this can’t go on like this. How can a game still be considered official if it doesn’t include all the rules, the ones it does have don’t work, and it’s buggy on top of that? If another company had done this, they would have lost the rights to the game a long time ago, but it seems that, among other things, FOM doesn’t care either. And that’s despite the fact that there are plenty of issues in F1 itself, not just in the game.

Not to mention that once again, they’re trying to shove special car liveries down our throats, and on top of that, Hamilton is the big selling point this is how they want to impress players. That’s all this "great" program has to offer. It’s a pathetic struggle.

At last laser scanned tracks, after 15 years and games. A hood piece of news. Only this should ve a massive step for the series.

The reversed layouts are uninteresting imo . Tracks are built with a flow in mind, what you see in a direction is not right if reversed, the brain just doesn't work this way (just try to exchange your right and.left headphones and the music doesn't sound the same at all).

It would have been more interesting to add other tracks or historic layouts, like in F1 2013, than reversed layouts. I assume CM is proud of the laser scanned ones and wants to exploit them as much as possible.

I'll keep an eye on this one for the tracks only. I had left the series aside when it dropped the classic F1s which felt much better, in any aspect, than the V6 era's ones.

I really like Codemaster F1 games, they got the best AI and the most comfortable racing experience. However I didn't buy last year's game because of handling (I tried it on a free weekend - I could get have gotten used to it, but that's not how it supposed to feel). Now this new game doesn't seem to provide something really new. LiDAR scanned tracks are good, but if the physycs not there then there is no point. Reverse tracks are a fun gimicks, but it makes it look more arcady (what if they'ld have added alternative layouts instead, like F1 2017 did). And I very much know it will be the same game and they probably didn't even touched F2, and it's still too buggy, almost unplayable. Apart from the game the marketing strategy, pre order bonuses, podium pass is really not my cup of tea. I do not hate the company, because they produced the only game where I can experience a whole motorsport series (standalone game), from start to finish, but in recent years they are going heavily downwards.

I'm a big fan of reverse layouts, maybe because I grew up on the original Gran Turismo games. Hopefully there will be an option to use them or not for folks that want greater track variety vs. a more immersive/realistic experience.

However, I'm not a fan of mirror layouts. Maybe it's just how my brain works. Reverse layouts are fine, but mirror layouts are super confusing to me. I always want to turn in the wrong direction on mirror layouts.
