Today is the day that the Forza franchise makes the leap to Play Station as Forza Horizon 5 launches on PS5 in early access. Access for non-Premium Edition players commences on 29 April.

For almost 20 years now, the Forza franchise has been a Microsoft-only release, available solely to those choosing Xbox consoles and PC for their racing game experience. But following the announcement of its release a few months ago, Forza Horizon 5 is now available on PlayStation 5 making it the first Forza title to make the switch.

A first time in history, here is everything that you need to know about the title's relaunch including the different editions, what they offer and when you can get your hands on the game.

How to Play FH5 on PlayStation Now

As you can tell from the title of this article, the fifth entry to the Forza Horizon series is not quite yet available to all PS5 players at the time of publication. As is often the case nowadays, only those opting for the most expensive version of the game - the Premium Edition - can get a first taste of Forza on PlayStation from today, 25 April.

If you are yet to pre-order your copy of the game or if you chose a cheaper version of FH5 on PS5, you will have to wait until after the weekend when access opens up to everyone from 29 April.

Everything You Need To Know

As we say, this is the first time that the Forza series has ventured outside of the realms of Microsoft, finally making its way to PlayStation consoles. But despite the history-making move, very little changes when it comes to the title's move to fresh lands.

Much like the game's forms until now, Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 will be available in its full form with over 800 cars and its massive open world. Plus, every DLC pack or update available on PC or Xbox is also available on the new console.

Despite originally launching on both current and previous generations of Xbox consoles, the PlayStation port of Horizon 5 only brings it to PS5. Though cross-platform online gameplay is available between all variants of the game meaning Sony-bound gamers can finally join their Windows buddies in Mexico.

Sadly, one thing you cannot do with this latest version of the game is pick up save games between platforms, something that was already the case between Xbox and PC.

If you are a Forza Horizon 5 player on either of the existing platforms (Xbox or PC), do not fear about getting forgotten. Whilst PlayStation consoles get all the limelight today, every platform receives the latest Horizon Realms update bringing back 12 world alterations from previous Seasonal Playlists. Forza Horizon 5 On PS5: Editions & Pricing

Much like for its original release to both Xbox and PC, Forza Horizon 5 is available in three different versions, providing more or less content depending on how much you want to pay. Despite first hitting shelves some four years ago, FH5 is still commanding brand-new prices on PlayStation however and so you should expect to fork out plenty of pennies, even for the most basic version.

Forza Horizon 5 Standard Edition

Just like the name says on the tin, the Standard Edition of Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 gets you the most basic form of the game, sans additional extras. It is available on the PlayStation Store from €69.99 / £54.99 / $59.99.

Forza Horizon 5 Deluxe Edition

Throughout its four-year lifespan, Forza Horizon 5 has received new automotive additions both in the form of free updates available as part of monthly Playlist updates, but also paid DLC packs. These DLC packs are available to purchase individually but for those looking to bolster their car collection, the Car Pass combines all 42 models into one pack. The FH5 Car Pass is available from €29.99 / £24.99 / $29.99.

For a cheaper deal however, the Car Pass comes as standard alongside the full game as part of the Forza Horizon 5 Deluxe Edition. This version of the game is available on PS5 from €89.99 / £69.99 / $79.99.

Forza Horizon 5 Premium Edition

Finally, for the big spenders, the Premium Edition of FH5 is available from €99.99 / £84.99 / $99.99. It comes with everything included in the Deluxe Edition (base game and Car Pass) plus the two Expansion Packs bringing both cars and new open worlds to the game. The Premium Edition also gains access to the title early, on 25 April rather than the 29th for other editions.

Feel sorry for people who only have playstation getting the most boring forza horizon title there has ever been. As for the pricing it's crazy. £85 + the price of dlc for a game that has been out for 4 years.

From an all encompassing car racing and car culture title, Forza Horizon is hands down the best. You get to race from 900+ cars nearly anything you want, in any way you want, and in any location you want or can conceive with an absolutely incredible Event Lab track creation tool.

FH5 literally nails nearly every single game play feature you can imagine and does it impeccably well. Every moment is rewarded too. Exceptional job to just make you happy and enjoy doing anything. And the rewind offline is just fantastic for making learning fun, not a miserable painful sadomasochistic drudge.

It does not have the realism and fidelity of the sim racing champion Gran Turismo 7, but it gets EVERY SINGLE OTHER ASPECT as close to perfect as has been done.

You can rally race, road race, circuit race, off road dirt race, cross country race, and on and on.

The car livery sharing and editor makes it a mere seconds to having almost anything you can conceive, if it isn't already done. The car tuning customization for moving the torque graph around and making suspension numbers click up and down is exceptional.

It is all about fun, and having the most smiles per mile you can. It bears remarkable resemblance to mario kart in a more grounded realism style environment. With the hot wheels taking that into a more grandiose place to go nuts.

Sim elitists and the sim racing community needs to put time in this to gather enough experience to understand what it means to have proper UX and immediate transition to do things, barely any load times, and quickly get into the most important part - Driving and racing. Offline rewind or section/segment repeat respects players time. No need to pile on unnecessary time wasting for a happy accident. The track blueprint creation capabilities should be legally required in any sim racing title and unacceptable without. Quick intuitive tabs and all direction navs to spend as little time in menus, not last century window menus. Time to face the festival music. No more delusions that a clapped out '82 trans am is just as good as a modern 2020s prototype racer. Pretend you're on the race track, not in another universe.

It's no wonder they hit 45 million players on the leaderboard before the PS5 release. Will they hit 75?

And no surprise, the PS5 Pro leaves the Xbox Series X in the dust and rivals 4-6x expensive pcs, minus all the headaches. Still it's bewildering how xbox went from huge innovations and great leadership to dumpster fire. Replace talent with clowns and moronic cult like bad decisions are guaranteed. Glad to see Playground games is just setting new PBs.

Creations like Re-Volt style tracks as well as circuits is the way.

Playstation fanboys flexing that the pro runs it better than a series x, it should its more powerful although I'd much rather play at 120fps on the series x than the 60fps that it runs at on ps5 pro.

And as for horizon 5 doing everything the best. Not a chance it's a child's game. Horizon 3 and 4 are the 2 best they've ever made.

And the statement above of "gt7 the sim racing champion" is the best joke I've heard all week
